Take Back Drug Day will be held Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Winner police department.

Persons will be able to bring unused or outdated prescriptions to the police department.

This is a nationwide campaign to safely dispose of prescription medications.

The Winner School District will be conducting begindergarten/kindergarten screening on April 23 for all children in the Winner district for the 2021-2022 school year.

South Dakota law states children must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2021 to enroll.

Please call the elementary school office at 842-8170 to schedule an appointment. Please bring a copy of a courthouse issued birth certificate and immunization records.

Persons with questions are to call the elementary office.

Let’s Glow will be the theme of the Winner High School Prom which will held April 24 in the Winner Armory. The grand march will start at 6:30  p.m. with the door opening at 6 p.m.

Following the grand march, the king and queen of prom will be crowned.

There will be a dinner and dance in the auxiliary gym.

Following the dance there will be an after prom party in the Armory, hosted by parents of the juniors and seniors.

The after prom party will be from midnight to 4 a.m. If a student leaves  the party early their parents will be called.  Also, if a student is registered to attend the after prom party and does not show up their parents will be called.

There are lots of events planned for the students to make it an enjoyable evening.

There will be inflatables, corn hole tournaments, card games, and laser tag.

This year there will be a mechanical bull.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol will have the trikes and impaired vision goggles. This gives the students the feeling of impaired driving.

For those who want to try their creative side, there will be canvas painting.

There will be a hypnotist which is always entertaining and a big hit with the students.

No one  will go away hungry as there will be lots of food plus a coffee bar.

There will be lots of prizes given away.

The after prom party is a fun way to make sure students are safe following prom.

Tripp County 4-H was able to introduce youth to life in France through the Crepes & Culture workshop on April 9.  It was led by Liz Farley, Daniel Rodriguez Gonzalez and Baptiste Reimel. 

Liz is an French-born American Citizen, and Dani & Baptiste are Spanish & French students placed with the ASSE International Student Exchange Program to spend the school year at Burke.    During both sessions, participants made crepes (including impressive flipping of crepes with the pan), practiced speaking French, and learned about life in France.

Brad Schramm defeated incumbent  John Meyer in the Ward Three Winner city election on April 13.

There was a one vote difference between the two candidates. Schramm received 53 votes and Meyer received 52 votes.

There was a 14.5 percent voter turnout in the election.  There are 711 registered voters in Ward Three and 105 votes were cast.

Schramm will start his term at the May 3 meeting.
