Jay Paul Eagle Star of Mosher, SD passed away at the Sanford USD Medical Center on April 13, 2021.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Mosher Advent Cemetery in Mosher, SD.
Jay Paul was born April 13, 2021 to Dolly Eagle Star. He passed away April 13, 2021. He blessed his mother with the short 6 months while growing in his mother’s womb. He will forever be loved and missed by his parents.
Jay Paul is survived by his parents, brothers, sisters, and many family. Preceding in death by his grandmother, Sandra Medicine Eagle, cousin, Hayden Medicine Eagle, and family.
Kenneth Lee Caldwell passed away on April 21, 2021 at his home in Winner, SD.
Kenneth was born May 29, 1953 at Lynch, NE to Kenneth Shewood and Carrie Maxine Caldwell. He was the oldest of five children. The family lived in Anoka, NE. Kenny attended grade school in Anoka and high school in Butte, NE.
Kenny worked various jobs in Nebraska before moving to Winner, SD in 1995. He worked one season at Schmidt Honey farm and other jobs before going to work for the City of Winner at the Landfill where he worked for 20 years before retiring in 2018. Hey enjoyed his work and the people that he met there. During retirement Kenny enjoyed his hobbies and visiting with people.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister-in-law Shirley. Survivors include his siblings; Kerry Caldwell of Winner, SD; Kelly (Bindy) Caldwell of Carroll, IA; Kevin Caldwell (Marleen) of Omaha, NE; Sheri (Ray) Olson of Winner, SD; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Many will miss Kenny’s wit and zest for life.
The Colome Elementary track and field day will be held on May 5. The event will start at 10 a.m.
A sack lunch will be provided for the students.
Scavenger’s Journey, a treasure hunting expedition, has added Winner to its lists of stops.
The three day event will be held June 25-27. It will feature antiques, collectibles, flea markets, specialty shops, yard sales, food vendors.
Scavenger’s Journey was modeled after similar successful events such as Nebraska’s Junk Jaunt, the World’s Longest Yard Sale and the Kansas Treasure.
The event seeks to promote commerce in small communities by holding city-wide garage sales, hosting flea markets and showcasing community groups.
The Scavenger Journey publishes a book that contains the locations of collectibles, antiques, crafts from different South Dakota towns on the route.
Persons who would like to have their garage sale advertised in this book need to get the information to Mike Scott before May 21. Businesses can also advertise in this book.
The Winner city wide garage sale will be June 25 and 26 and Crazy Day will be June 25.
“This is an open door to attract people to our community,” said Mike Scott, executive director of the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce.
The participating communities are: Stickney, Plankinton, White Lake, Kimball, Platte, Chamberlain, Oacoma, Reliance, Winner, Presho, Murdo, Belvidere and Kadoka.
Books listing the sales can be purchased in each town.
Persons who have questions on the city wide garage sale sponsored by the Chamber or Scavenger Journey can call Scott at the Chamber at 842-1533.
Scavenger’s Journey is a non-profit organization. Sponsors include each of the local communities, local businesses and the South Dakota Missouri River Tourism group.
The 36th annual Winner High School academic excellence and National Honor Society banquet will be held May 6 at St. Mary’s Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Last year there was no banquet due to COVID-19.
This year 25 seniors will receive plaques for having been honored all four years at the banquet.

The induction of new members into the National Honor Society will be held.
The officers of NHS are Katherine Jankauskas, president; Emma Jorgensen, vice president; Megan Brozik, secretary; Hayley Hanson, treasurer and Aryn Meiners, historian. Lisa Jankauskas is the advisor.
The Colome High School prom will be held on Friday, April 30 in the Colome gym.
The prom theme is “A Stompin’ Good Time.”
A dinner will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Colome Legion.
The grand march will start at 9 p.m.
Following the grand march there will be a dance. The DJ is Uptown Sounds by Riley Cassidy of Rapid City.
There will be an after prom party hosted by parents of the juniors. The after prom party will feature a mechanical bull riding, sumo wrestling. G-force sling shot, a photo booth and other games and activities.
