John Patrick Antoine, 13 days, of Winner,
SD passed away at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD on April
15, 2021.
Funeral service were held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the Winner Ideal Community Hall in Winner, SD. Burial followed in the Winner City Cemetery.
John Patrick Antoine went to heaven in the embrace of his mother on April 15, 2021. John was born on April 2, 2021 to Cheryl and Devin, joining siblings; Kiley, Kira and Devin Jr. Despite his short time on earth, he was deeply loved and brought joy to us all.
John Patrick will be forever loved by his
parents Cheryl and Devin, his sisters and brother, his grandparents Molly
DuBray, Everett Antoine Jr., Donna Eisenbraun, and the late Patrick Felix Sr.,
and all of his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Terry Kerner, 69, of Sutherland, NE,
formerly of Winner, SD passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Bryan
Medical Center East in Lincoln, NE.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Winner United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to the family for future designation towards a foundation or scholarship.
Terry was born Dec. 24, 1951 to Alvin and Darlene Kerner in Windom, Minn. Terry was the oldest of eleven children, which he was an amazing brother to. He graduated from Winner High School in 1970. In his youth he was an avid athlete, who loved to play baseball. Terry enjoyed many big game hunting experiences. At the age of twelve he took his first chance to drive a semi with his father. This sparked his passion. Terry jumped to the chance to begin his career along the side of his father with trucking. He was dedicated to transporting goods all over the country for fifty-three years, traveling countless miles in his life.
He was a kind and thoughtful man, as well as a loving father to Travis, Tyler, Jill, Jolene, and Trey. He beamed with pride when it came to his grandchildren, Cole, Cooper, Rylee, Piper, Austin, Rance, and Wyatt. In his spare time, he loved planting trees, riding horses, spending time with his grandkids, and taking the chance at winning the lottery.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Alvin and Darlene, sons Marcus and Toby Kerner, brother-in-law Nile Brooker.
Terry is survived by his children, Travis
Kerner (Mindy) of Sutherland, Nebraska; Tyler Kerner (Brenda) of El Mirage, AZ;
Jill Kerner (Robert) of Ainsworth, NE; Jolene Christner (Justin) of Wallace,
NE; Trey Kerner (Jimi) of Brule, NE. He leaves a legacy with 7 grandchildren,
Cole Kerner, Cooper Kerner, Rylee Kerner, Piper Kerner, Austin Kerner, Rance
Christner, and Wyatt Christner. Siblings, Cherly Kerner, Doug Kerner, Kevin
Kerner, Gail Kerner, Tim Kerner, Shelia Kerner, Keith Kerner, Alex Kerner,
Angela Rutenbeck, and Jerred Kerner. Along with aunts and uncles.
The
first of weekly highway construction meetings was held April 6 in the
city council chambers.
The
purpose is to keep people informed on work with the re-construction
of Highway 18.
The
work on the road project started March 29. The work is primarily on
Highway 18 from Van Buren to 7th
St.
South
Dakota Department of Transportation and T &R Contracting of Sioux
Falls, the prime contractor, conducted the meeting.
Connor
Christensen of T&R Contracting and Doug Sherman, area engineer
for the DOT conducted the meeting.
Christensen
explained that starting April 6 north Jefferson Street would be
closed until the concrete is laid. This will probably be around
June.
He
said the construction company will be milling the east side of Main
Street to Adams Street.
Traffic
is being maintained through the construction zone. An 11 foot width
restriction will be in place. Vehicles larger than 11 foot will have
to take an alternate route or obtain a permit.
The
DOT says here are signs on highways around Winner alerting truckers
to the width restrictions.
The
signs are located: north of Highway 18 on Highway 183, on Highway 53
south of Highway 18, Highway 83, south of Mission, Highway 183, south
Colome, Highway 18, east of Colome, Highway 49, north of Highway 44
and Highway 44 east of junction of Highway 49 and 44. There are width
restriction signs also on South County Road and North Country Road in
Winner.
During
the construction project there will be weekly meetings. In the
future, the meetings will be live streamed.

The Winner High School prom will be held April 24.
“Let’s
Glow” will be the theme.
The
grand march will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Armory with the door open
at 6 p.m.
Following
the grand march will be the crowning of the prom king and queen.
A
dinner and dance for prom-goers will be held in the auxiliary gym
following the grand march.
The
dinner will be prepared by the Catholic Daughters.
This
year’s prom servers are Kendyl Bachmann, Melanie Brozik, Mali
Beehler, Faith Covey, Kelbi Meiners, Rylee Root, Jack Kruger, Ethan
Bartels, Pierce Nelson, Riley Orel, Jack Peters and Tayden Mathis.
Providing
music for the dance will be the Outlaw DJ’s.

Teresa Taylor of Winner received her state FFA degree at the state convention in Rapid City.
The
state FFA Degree is the highest degree of membership conferred by the
South Dakota FFA Association.
The
requirements for this degree are:
•Having earned and productively invested at least $1,000 or worked at least 300 hours in excess of scheduled class time or a combination in a supervised agricultural experience program.
•Demonstrated leadership ability by performing ten procedures of parliamentary law, giving a six minute speech on an agriculture or FFA related topic of serving as an officer, committee chairperson, or participating member of a chapter committee.
•Have
completed at least 25 hours of community service.
