Memorial services for Larry Ulmer age 77 of Gregory, SD will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Gregory, SD.

There is a prayer service Friday night at 7 pm at the church.

Funeral services for Patricia Klein were held Feb. 12 at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke with Rev. Philip Henning officiating.

Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery.

Patricia Kay (Grim) Klein was born April 2, 1953 to Leonard “Ray” and Irene (Stahlecker) Grim in Gregory, SD. She was the second born child in a family of ten.

She passed away Feb. 7, 2020 at the Burke Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 66 years.

Pat grew up on the family farm six miles south of Gregory. She attended the Gordan School District #46. Pat was 14 years old when her mother died and it affected the family greatly. Pat attended Gregory High School and graduated in 1971.

Pat met the love of her life, Delbert and they were united in marriage on April 8, 1972. To this union two children were born: Calvin Lee and Dulcie Kay.

During her lifetime, she was always by Delbert’s side to help with all of the farm/ranch work. She worked at the Burke Community Hospital for 47 years. She enjoyed many simple things in life such as: gardening, fishing, cattle, horses, and spending time outdoors and with family.

She was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. She had a very special place in her heart for her husband, children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Pat was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. She was also a member of the Grace Ladies Aid and the Burke Hospital Auxiliary.

Pat is survived by her husband and best friend, Delbert of Herrick, SD; her children: Calvin (Erica) Klein of Mills, NE and Dulcie (Wade) Swan of Herrick, SD; her 4 grandchildren: Sierra, Jaden, Emerson and Shalee. Other survivors include her siblings: Rich (Sara) Grim, Nola Grim (Harland), Danny Grim, Randy Grim, Jan Schrader, Darwin (Kerri) Grim, Tina Schmaltz-Grim, sister-in-law Nancy Grim; In-Laws: Vernon (Diane) Klein, Dennis (Marilyn) Klein and Karen Klein. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Leonard ‘Ray’ and Irene Grim; her grandparents; infant sister and brother, Cheryl and Dennis Grim; brothers: Larry and Rod Grim; father and mother-in-law, Rudy and Mildred Klein; sister and brother-in-law: Deloris and Kent Sinkular, and niece Brandy Jean Klein.

Funeral services for Lois Glover were held Feb. 15 at the Union Baptist Church in Burke with pastor Mark Tuttle officiating.

Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Burke.

Glover died Feb. 9 at the Butte, Neb., nursing home.
Lois Arlene (Alley) Glover was born Feb. 17, 1928, to Clifford and Hazel Alley at home on the farm near Orient, SD. Dr. Hagin drove 30 miles from Miller, SD, to help with the delivery.

The family moved to a farm north of Polo, SD, and later, due to the drought and bad years, moved to another farm west of Polo. This is where Lois grew up. She attended country school for eight years with her brothers, Keith and Jim, and later high school in Miller where she boarded during the week. Lois graduated valedictorian of her class.

After graduation, she attended SDSU for nursing. It was there that she met her future husband, Harvey Glover from Frederick, SD, who had just returned from serving in the Navy during WWII.

The couple was married on Oct. 24, 1947, and lived in Volga, SD, while Harvey finished college. Sons Jon and Tom where born while they lived there. Later they moved to a farm near her parents to help with the farming there. David, Deb and Marsha were added to the family.

In Jan. of 1957, Harvey accepted the job of Gregory County Extension Agent, and the family moved to Burke, SD. Gary was born in Burke. The couple bought a farm just north of Burke where they raised their family.

Lois worked as a deputy county treasurer, then with her husband in their income tax, real estate, and investment business. They also had an auction clerking service. These were busy years.

In 1965 Lois lost a baby girl at birth and in 1967 her oldest son Jon was killed in a car accident. The couple divorced in 1989. Lois then went to work for Dr. Kenneth McKenzie as his bookkeeper for 10 years. She retired in 1996.

Lois loved the farm. She loved her flowers, vegetable gardening, and cats. She played bridge every week with very special friends. She attended children and grandchildren’s sports events, keeping stats for them.

She especially enjoyed the time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As her health declined, she moved to Silver Threads Assisted Living in Gregory, SD, and then Butte Nursing Home in Butte, NE.

She leaves to mourn her children: Tom (Peg) of Burke, Deb Leibel of Burke, David (Judy) of Kearney, NE, Marsha (John) Broadbook of Sioux Falls, SD, and Gary (Dawn) of Burbank, SD, 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jon, her daughter, Arlene, son-in-law Butch Leibel, her brothers Keith and Jim and his wife Barb. She will be missed by all.

Jane Schramm, 49, of Winner, SD passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral service were held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner, SD. Burial followed in the Winner City Cemetery.

Jane Laree Schramm, 49, of Winner, SD, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 after a short battle with pneumonia.

Jane was born April 8, 1970 in Winner, the daughter of Jim and Karen Schramm. Jim and Karen dedicated their lives to protecting, teaching, caring for and remaining loving stewards of Jane every day of her life.

She was baptized into Christ on June 7, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner, SD where she remained a member her entire life. Through the loving, independent instruction of Francis Storms during Jane’s teenage years she was confirmed into faith which was an important celebration to her.

Jane’s formal education began at age 3 where she was a proud student in the Special Education programs at Winner Public Schools for 18 years. Her participation in public education and her loving family developed Jane into the capable, strong-willed person she was.

Jane found joy in the simple things and functioned highly as a person with Down Syndrome. She lived independently through the support of Community Connections and often showed her independence through one of her trademark comments “I do it my own self” when offered help.

She proudly held several jobs around the Winner area at Fullerton Lumber, Winner Regional Medical Center, Community Connections car wash, Winner Food Center and her favorite, Pizza Hut.

In 2018 Jane declared “I won!” with a huge smile on her face when Pizza Hut management awarded her with a certificate and a new 50” TV, which she received for completing 25 years of employment.

Jane was quick to give a hug and demonstrated pure unconditional love. If you took the time to smile at her, get to know her, pay her attention, give her a dollar or a snack; your life was increased many times over by the joy she gave back.

Jane’s favorite pastime activities included playing cards, esp. Kings in a Corner and Peek, bowling, movies and attending holiday parties with her fellow clients of Community Connections.

She looked most forward to the Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and spring dance events, some which were shared with friends from the Pierre and Chamberlain group homes. Jane was very happy when named Queen of the Valentine’s Day Community Connections party in 2019.

Jane is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Ture ‘Bob’ and Mildred Johanson and Herbert and Harriett Schramm, uncle Darrell Johanson and aunt Sharon Kvistad.

Jane is survived by her parents, siblings Grant (Wendy) Schramm of North Platte, NE, Laura (Sam) Goodhope and Mark (Bobbi) Schramm, all of Sioux Falls, SD; aunts & uncles Diane Johanson of Moorhead, MN, Gayle Kvistad of Echo, MN, Nancy (Eugene) Geissinger of Huron, SD and Cindy (Neil) Quitsch of Sumpter, SC; nieces and nephews Valerie (Jim) Birch, Eric (Taylor) Schramm, Trevor Schramm, Chloe, Anna, Sadie and Charlotte Goodhope, Aiden, Carter and Spencer Schramm; great nieces and nephews, Emily, Caleb & Daniel Birch and Amelia Schramm; first cousins Steve Kvistad, Julie (Mark) Anderson, Paul (Jamie) Kvistad, Greg (Melanie) Kvistad, Jason (Cindy) Geissinger, Elizabeth Quitsch, Rebecca Mireles and many extended family.

Through Jane we learned compassion, patience, commitment, humility and to love the little things. All who knew Jane are better people because of her smile, her hugs and the lessons she taught living life one day at a time. As Jane would remind us, “Now that’s what I’m talking about!”
