Winner High School boys basketball team got back on the winner track with a 77-45 victory over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte on Saturday.

Devon Leiferman led Winner with 17 points followed by Drew DeMers, 16 and Cameron Kuil with 10.  Leiferman had 12 rebounds, Cameron Kuil and Isaac Naasz with 8 each.  DeMers had 9 assists.

Cowboys Nipped in Highmore Classic

Colome boys basketball team was nipped by Herreid/Selby 63-62 in the Highmore Classic on Saturday.
Reed Harter led the Cowboys with 22 points followed by Holden Thieman with 19 and Kelly O’Bryan 10.  Thieman pulled down 14 rebounds and Jackson Kinzer, 9.

On Friday, Colome defeated Andes Central/Dakota Christian, 67-51
Reed Harter scored 23 points, Kinzer, 14; Thieman, 13 and O’Bryan, 12.  Thieman pulled down 14 rebounds, Kinzer, 7 and Harter, 6.

College Football Signing

Two members of the Winner High School football team have signed letters of intent to play college football.

Windsor Barry has signed at Chadron State and Lattrell Terkildsen has signed at Presentation College in Aberdeen.

Both WHS seniors were a part of the 2015 Class 11B championship football team and helped the Warriors to an undefeated 12-0 season.
National signing day was Feb. 3.

Lady Warriors Win Thriller in Overtime

In an exciting overtime game, Winner Lady Warriors basketball team defeated Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 61-56 Saturday in Winner.
The regulation game ended in a 51-51 time.

A shot with 15 seconds left by Madyson Frazier tied the game.

In the overtime, Allison Cox, Bailey Volmer and Frazier made key shots for the victory. With 4 seconds left in game, Frazer made two frees for the victory.

Frazier led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Allison Cox with 12 and 10 from Kylie Horstman.  Cox pulled down 13 rebounds.

Aaker Named “Football Coach of the Year”

Winner football coach Dan Aaker has been named the South Dakota High School Coaches Association 2015 coach of the year for football.

Aaker led the Winner High School football team to a perfect 12-0 season and the class 11B state championship.

The SDHSCA coaches of the year will be recognized at the annual awards banquet to be held in Mitchell on July 12 in conjunction with the summer coaches clinic.

Eight Wrestlers Place in Aberdeen

Winner Area wrestling team took 6th place at the Lee Wolf Invite in Aberdeen on Saturday. The Warriors placed eight wrestlers in the tournament.

Kayleb Brozik was the champion at 170 pounds as he won by injury default over Bradley Nelson of Aberdeen Central.

Wyatt Turnquist took third place at 106 pounds. He won by major decision 11-2 over Daymon Steuck of Aberdeen Central.

Fourth place went to Trevor Peters and Colby Curtis. Peters, 120, was pinned in 2:17 by Will Jarrott of Aberdeen Central.
Curtis, 126, lost 10-3 to Jaden Shepard of Mobridge/Pollock.

Fifth place went to Avery Gilchrist, 145, as he pinned Nick Brandner of Ipswich/Leola in 55 seconds.

Also placing fifth was Jayden Schroeder, 195, as he won by pin in 1:27 over Patrick Sproles of Sioux Falls O’Gorman.

Taking 8th place were Riggin Shippy and Cohl Tunquist. Shippy, 152, lost 7-2 to Nathan Powell of Chamberlain.
Turnquist, 182, was pinned in 2:47 by Mason Wickheurst of Watertown.

Warriors Battle Hard in Mt. Vernon Game

Winner High School boys basketball team suffered a defeat Friday night as they lost to Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 63-59.
After being down by 13 points, the Warriors came back to tie the game in the fourth quarter. However, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton prevailed with the victory.
Devon Leiferman led the scoring for the Warriors with 19 points followed by Lattrel Terkildsen and Krockett Krolikowski with 10 each.

Leiferman and Krolikowski each had 7 rebounds.  Terkildsen and Drew DeMers each had 4 assists.  Leaders in man makers were Terkildsen, 2; DeMers and Wyatt Ewing, 1 each.
