Wrestlers Sweep Up Wins

Winner Area wrestlers picked up three victories at a wrestling quad on Feb. 9 in Chamberlain.

Winner defeated Chamberlain 51-30, defeated Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes 48-21 and won over McCook Central/Montrose 37-35.
Wyatt Turnquist, Atlas Willuweit, Colby Curtis, Kayleb Brozik and Cohl Turnquist all had three victories for Winner.

Lady Warriors Win Two Games

Winner Lady Warriors basketball team picked up a win over McLaughlin Friday in Winner. The Lady Warriors won 67-58 and improve their record to 15-4.

Allison Cox led Winner with 27 points followed by 12 from Kylie Horstman and 10 from Sydney Fritz. Bailey Volmer added 9 points.  Cox pulled down 14 of Winner’s 27 rebounds.

Thursday night Winner hosted Platte-Geddes and came away with a 57-35 victory.

Cox scored 12 points and Horstman, 11.  LaCompte and Cox both had 6 rebounds.

Warriors Win Big Dakota Wrestling Tournament

Winner Area wrestling team won the Big Dakota wrestling tournament Saturday in Ft. Pierre.  In overall team standings, Winner took second with Parkston placing first.

Taking second place were Atlas Willuweit, Colby Curtis and Jayden Schroeder. Willuweit, 113 pounds, lost by injury default to Carl Cronin of Potter Co.   Curtis, 126, lost 8-7 to Trevor Pray of Groton Area.  Schroeder, 195, lost 5-3 to Caleb Brandy of Wolsey-Wessington.

Fourth place went to Wyatt Turnquist, Trevor Peters and Riggin Shippy.   Turnquist, 106, lost 4-0 to Sam Kreuger of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.  Peters, 120, lost 7-3 to Weston Ireland of Bennett County.  Shippy, 152, was pinned in 3:48 by Bray Harrison of Mobridge/Pollock.

“We finished in second place overall, but were the highest finishers in the Big Dakota Conference and are conference champions. This is a great accomplishment for our kids to achieve,” said Chambers.

Winner High School boys basketball team got back on the winner track with a 77-45 victory over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte on Saturday.

Devon Leiferman led Winner with 17 points followed by Drew DeMers, 16 and Cameron Kuil with 10.  Leiferman had 12 rebounds, Cameron Kuil and Isaac Naasz with 8 each.  DeMers had 9 assists.

Cowboys Nipped in Highmore Classic

Colome boys basketball team was nipped by Herreid/Selby 63-62 in the Highmore Classic on Saturday.
Reed Harter led the Cowboys with 22 points followed by Holden Thieman with 19 and Kelly O’Bryan 10.  Thieman pulled down 14 rebounds and Jackson Kinzer, 9.

On Friday, Colome defeated Andes Central/Dakota Christian, 67-51
Reed Harter scored 23 points, Kinzer, 14; Thieman, 13 and O’Bryan, 12.  Thieman pulled down 14 rebounds, Kinzer, 7 and Harter, 6.

College Football Signing

Two members of the Winner High School football team have signed letters of intent to play college football.

Windsor Barry has signed at Chadron State and Lattrell Terkildsen has signed at Presentation College in Aberdeen.

Both WHS seniors were a part of the 2015 Class 11B championship football team and helped the Warriors to an undefeated 12-0 season.
National signing day was Feb. 3.
