Winner Area wrestling team took 7th place at the Huron tournament on Saturday.

Five Winner Area wrestles placed. Atlas Willuweit took second, Trevor Peters and Kayleb Brozik, both 5th , Colby Curtis and Jayden Schroeder both took 4th.

At 113 pounds, Willuweit was pinned in 4:41 by Kaleb Crowover of Bon Homme/Scotland

Curtis, 126, lost to 5-2 to Dawson Kremlacek, Brandon Valley and Schroeder, 195, lost 5-3 to Colton Koslowski of Webster.

Peters, 120, won by injury default over Sam Strop of Watertown.  Brozik, 170, pinned  Jordan Lucht of Yankton in 3:33

Winner High School boys basketball team cruised to a 73-30 victory over McLaughlin Friday night in Winner. With the victory, the Warriors improved to 12-5 for the season.

Trevor Bertram lead the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Devon Leiferman and Wyatt Ewing with 10 points each. Cameron Kuil scored 9 points, Krockett Krolikowski and Lattrel Terkildsen, 8 each and Drew DeMers, 7.
Leiferman pulled down 8 boards and Drew DeMers had 6 assists.

Devon Leiferman’s 25 points helped propel the Winner High School boys basketball team to an 82-55 victory over St. Francis last Tuesday.

The Warriors had balanced scoring with Cameron Kuil, 15 points; Drew DeMers, 11; Krockett Krolikowski and Trevor Bertram with 8 each and Chase Kingsbury with 7.

Kuil pulled down 11 rebounds, Leiferman, 9 and Wyatt Ewing, 7.  DeMers had 8 assists and Bertram, 6.

Reed Harter scored 24 points as the Colome boys basketball team defeated North Central 67-54 on Feb. 9 in Colome.

Holden Thieman added 15 points, Kelly O’Bryan, 12 and Jackson Kinzer, 9.  Thieman pulled down 14 rebounds with Kinzer grabbing 9.

With the victory, the Cowboys improved to 10-5.

Reed Harter scored 25 points as the Colome boys basketball team defeated Menno 59-43 Saturday in Colome.
Jackson Kinzer added 12 and Holden Thieman, 10 points.  Thieman pulled down 9 rebounds.

Winner Area wrestlers picked up three victories at a wrestling quad on Feb. 9 in Chamberlain.

Winner defeated Chamberlain 51-30, defeated Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes 48-21 and won over McCook Central/Montrose 37-35.
Wyatt Turnquist, Atlas Willuweit, Colby Curtis, Kayleb Brozik and Cohl Turnquist all had three victories for Winner.

Winner Lady Warriors basketball team picked up a win over McLaughlin Friday in Winner. The Lady Warriors won 67-58 and improve their record to 15-4.

Allison Cox led Winner with 27 points followed by 12 from Kylie Horstman and 10 from Sydney Fritz. Bailey Volmer added 9 points.  Cox pulled down 14 of Winner’s 27 rebounds.

Thursday night Winner hosted Platte-Geddes and came away with a 57-35 victory.

Cox scored 12 points and Horstman, 11.  LaCompte and Cox both had 6 rebounds.

Colome girls basketball team was defeated by North Central 54-44 Feb. 9.

Taylor Hrabanek and Callie Heath both scored 10 points and Mariah Kinzer added 9.

Kinzer and Heath each pulled down 7 of Colome’s 28 rebounds.

Menno defeated the Colome girls basketball team 56-36 Saturday in Colome.
Callie Heath led Colome with 14 points as the Cowgirls were 14 of 58 from field and 7-12 from the line.
Colome defeated Kadoka 58-46 on Friday.
Heath scored 15 points, Destannie Noteboom, 11 and Mariah Kinzer, 9.

Winner Area wrestling team won the Big Dakota wrestling tournament Saturday in Ft. Pierre.  In overall team standings, Winner took second with Parkston placing first.

Taking second place were Atlas Willuweit, Colby Curtis and Jayden Schroeder. Willuweit, 113 pounds, lost by injury default to Carl Cronin of Potter Co.   Curtis, 126, lost 8-7 to Trevor Pray of Groton Area.  Schroeder, 195, lost 5-3 to Caleb Brandy of Wolsey-Wessington.

Fourth place went to Wyatt Turnquist, Trevor Peters and Riggin Shippy.   Turnquist, 106, lost 4-0 to Sam Kreuger of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.  Peters, 120, lost 7-3 to Weston Ireland of Bennett County.  Shippy, 152, was pinned in 3:48 by Bray Harrison of Mobridge/Pollock.

“We finished in second place overall, but were the highest finishers in the Big Dakota Conference and are conference champions. This is a great accomplishment for our kids to achieve,” said Chambers.
