Winner girls basketball team fell to one of the top rates teams in the state Friday night. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, rated No. 2, downed the Lady Warriors 60-34. Winner fell behind 22-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Bailey Volmer scored 9 points, Sydney Fritz, 8 and Kylie Horstman, 7.

The Lady Warriors rebounded from their loss with a victory over Miller Saturday night in Winner. The Lady Warriors won the game 58-40. This was a make-up game from last Monday when a strong winter storm called off school last week.

Allison Cox had a game high 24 points. She had 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Fritz added 9 points.

Platte/Geddes defeated the Colome girls basketball team 62-53 on Friday.

Taylor Hrabanek led Colome’s scoring with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Callie Heath had 17 points.

Pine Ridge handed the Winner Lady Warriors its third loss of the season on Jan. 21. The Lady Warriors fell 71-60. Winner’s record is 10-3.

Allison Cox led the scoring for Winner with 16 points followed by Sydney Fritz with 14 and Madyson Frazier, 9.

Colome girls basketball team was nipped by Centerville 60-56 Monday night in Parkston.  This was a makeup game from the Snowball Classic in Winner in late December.

Callie Heath led the Cowgirls with 22 points followed by Mariah Kinzer with 14 and Taylor Hrabanek with 11.

Hrabanek pulled down 16 rebounds and Heath, 11.

Earlier in the week, Winner hosted a triangular with two Nebraska schools—Valentine and O’Neill.

Valentine defeated Winner 43-29 and Winner won over O’Neill 39-36.

Winner Area wrestling team took fourth place at its own invitational on Saturday.

The Warriors had two champions in Wyatt Turnquist and Kayleb Brozik.

Winner boys basketball team bounced back with a win over Tri Valley in the Dakota State University Classic in Madison on Saturday.
Winner won the game 57-48.  The game was played in two 18 minute halves.

Leading the scoring were Devon Leiferman and Lattrell Terkildsen with 12 points each; Krockett Krolikowski with 10 points and Drew DeMers with 8 points.

Cameron Kuil pulled down 8 rebounds and Leiferman had 7.

Kuil had 3 steals and DeMers, 4 assists.

Wyatt Ewing had one man maker.

Reed Harter scored 28 points as the Colome boys basketball team defeated Jones County 68-41 on Jan. 19 in Colome.  Kelly O’Bryan added 21 points.

Jackson Kinzer pulled down 7 of Colome’s 26 rebounds. Holden Thieman and Will Cahoy each grabbed 4 rebounds.

Colome will host Platte on Jan. 29 in a boys and girls doubleheader.

A large number of wrestlers competed in the Winner Youth wrestling tournament Sunday afternoon.  Results from Winner include:

Winner Lady Warriors rolled to a 77-19 victory over Bennett County Jan. 19 in Martin.

Bailey Volmer and Gabby Kocer scored 12 points, Sydney Fritz, 10 points; Sydney Hollenbeck, 9 and Allison Cox, Chloe Bartels and Madyson Frazier, all with 8 points.

Rebounds were spread out among the Winner team with Frazier, Cox and Hollenbeck all having 5.

Cox had 8 steals.
