Emma Vandenbark, a student at Colome, won first place in the local grandparents essay contest.
She wrote about her grandmother Trena Vandenbark. Emma is the daughter of Matt and Kate Vandenbark.
The winning essays were read at the Feb. 22 meeting of the Winner Area Retired School Personnel.
