Mitchell Sweeps Legion Team

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team was swept by Mitchell Friday night.

In the first game, Mitchell scored nines runs in the first three innings. Mitchell won the game 10-0 in five innings and took the second game 15-2 in five innings.

Ty Bolton took the loss for Winner/Colome and Drew DeMers had the team’s lone hit. Jeremiah Yeaman also pitched.
In the second game, Levi McClanahan took the loss allowing eight runs on five hits. Drew DeMers and Cameron Biggins each pitched.

DeMers had two hits and a run scored and Kelly O’Bryan had a hit and a run scored.  Nick Lantz had an RBI single.

“These were not two good outings. We had too many walks on the mound and never really got anything going at the plate,” said coach Drew Weber.  “We had 8 hits in the second game but never strung them together to have a big inning. We need to start doing a better job of limiting big innings from the other team and start finding a way to get some of them for ourselves,” said Weber.

On June 24, the Winner/Colome Legion will play Lead-Deadwood at home at 3:30 p.m.   On June 27, the Legion team will play at Platte.

Legion Downs Misson

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team defeated Mission 6-5 on June 14 in Mission.

Cale Meiners started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up five runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.  Drew DeMers picked up the win in relief pitching two innings.

Meiners had an RBI double, Kelly O’Bryan, Nick Lantz, Ty Bolton and Levi McClanahan each had singles.

“It was nice to win in a game where we didn’t play our best. We are not good enough offensively right now and hopefully things will right themselves as we get a little later in the season. We have a talented ball club but we need to start clicking on all cylinders and I think we will,” said coach Drew Weber.

Golfers Place 7th at State

Winner Area girls golf team placed seventh at the state Class A golf tournament in Hartford June 5-6.

On the first day, the Winner Area girls shot a 389 and the second day shot a 369.

Two golfers received medals. Ronae Klein placed 13th and Liz Jankauskas placed 17th.

Klein had a two-day total of 176 and Jankauskas shot a 179 over the two days.

Results of other Winner Area golfers include: Addy Root, 203; Cheyenne Dougherty, 206 and Sam Marts, 221.

Colome Wins 16U Tournament

Colome Teeners won the 16U tournament Sunday afternoon in Winner as they defeated Onida 7-5 at Leahy Bowl.  Layton Thieman pitched the entire game.   Chase Dufek and Layton Thieman scored the first two runs for Colome. Colome scored four runs in the second inning.   Nash Atteberry had a triple in the game.
Colome played two games on Saturday.

The team opened with a 9-4 victory over Gregory at noon on Saturday. Jackson Kinzer was the winning pitcher.  Leading hitters were Chase Dufek with thee hits including two doubles and a single. Kinzer added 2 singles.
In the second game, Colome defeated Valentine, Neb., 10-4.   Calvin Ringing Shield was the winning pitcher with Jacob Beckers credited with the save.   Dufek had a double, Thieman a triple and a double and Ringing Shield a triple.

Junior Legion Opens Tournament with a Victory

Winner Junior Legion opened play in the 16U tournament in Winner with a 15-3 win over Mission Saturday morning.   The game ended in the fourth inning.  Winner scored nine runs in the third inning.  Aaron Gilchrist was the winning pitcher.
Leading hitters were Dalton Baker with two hits, Phillip Jorgensen with 2 doubles and Shea Connot with two hits.

Saturday evening Winner was defeated by Onida 7-6 in nine innings.  Kameron Meiner and Gilchrist were the pitchers in this game.  Jorgensen had a double and a single with Oscar Pravecek getting two hits.

Sunday Winner was defeated by Gregory 10-2.

Colome Teeners Win over Winner

Colome Teeners baseball team defeated Winner 14-8 June 5 at Leahy Bowl.  Landon Thieman was the winning pitcher with Jackson Kinzer getting the save.

Colome Junior Teeners were defeated by Winner 17-7. Brayden Seegers was the losing pitcher.

On Thursday, Colome hosted Mission for two games.

Colome won the junior teeners game 6-5.  Alec Thieman was the winning pitcher with Joey Cole getting the save.  The game ended on a double play to Seegers at short stop catching a line drive and then going to first to catch the runner off base.

The Teeners won 11-1. Chase Dufek was the winning pitcher and Calvin Ringing Shield had the save.

Junior Teeners Pick Up Wins

Winner Junior Teeners defeated Colome 17-7 on June 5 in Winner.

Zach Bohnet pitched three innings and Ashton Klein finished the game on the mound.  Brady Fritz had 3 hits and 5 RBIs with one of the hits being an inside the park home run.  Kolbe Osborn had 3 hits and scored 3 runs.

Winner lost a hard fought battle with Kimball/White Lake 11-9 in extra innings on June 3. Evan Farner, Jesse Colson and Ashton Klein shared duties on the mound.

Charley Pravecek had 2 hits and Owen Duffy and reached base safely two times.

On June 2, the Junior Teeners opened with an 11-1 victory over Valentine, Neb.

Fritz picked up the win striking out 8 Valentine batters. Fritz, Klein and Duffy each had 2 hits.

Junior Teeners Fall in Three Games

Winner Junior Teeners played three games in a tournament this weekend in Parkston.

“We played pretty good baseball but lost all three games to some very good baseball teams,” said coach Jon Hanson.

In the first game, Parkston won 11-3. Brady Fritz pitched all five innings. He had 6 strikeouts and also had a triple.
Fritz, Kolbie Osborn and Evan Farner each scored a run.

In the second game, Winner lost 10-2 to Lennox. Zach Bohnet pitched four innings and only allowed four hits while striking out two Lennox batters.  Ashton Klein pitched the remaining inning.  Osborn had a double and Klein reached base safely twice.

In the third game, Winner lost 13-3 to Bon Homme.   Jesse Colson pitched four innings and Ashton Klein and Riley Orel pitched in relief.  Bohnet had a 2 RBI triple and Devon Senter had an RBI double. Michael Olson, Klein, Adam Bohnet had singles.

Next action is Thursday at home against Mission. The team will host the Fathers Day tournament this weekend.

Legion Plays in Aberdeen Tournament

Winner/Colome Legion played five games in a baseball tournament this weekend in Aberdeen.

In the first game, Milbank defeated the Royals 7-2.   Ty Bolton was the losing pitcher as he threw a complete game with 7 strikeouts.  Kelly O’Bryan had a 2 run home run. Riley Calhoon and Bolton had 2 hits each.

In the next game, Winner/Colome defeated Aberdeen 9-6. Carter Brickman was the winning pitcher with O’Bryan getting the save.  Leading hitters were Jeremiah Yeaman with 2 hits, O’Bryan and Levi McClanahan with 2 runs scored.

Huron defeated the Royals 9-1. Brickman, O’Bryan and Andrew Laprath had one hit each.

Winner/Colome shut out Morris, Minn., 10-0. O’Bryan was the winning pitcher.  O’Bryan had double, 2 singles and 3 RBIs; Calhoon, 3 hits, McClanahan, a triple and 2 RBIs and Brickman, 2 hits, 3 runs scored.

In the final game, Fargo, N.D., defeated Winner/Colome 11-0. Calhoon and Nick Lantz each had a single.

Earlier in the week, the Royals played at home as they defeated Gregory 21-2 on June 7.

Yeaman was the winning pitcher.  O’Bryan had 3 doubles, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored; Brickman, 3 singles, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored and Riley Calhoon, 4 runs scored.

Coach Drew Weber said the team had a busy week against some tough competition. “Right now we are in a bit of a defensive funk. We will need to be more consistent in the field and make plays to help our pitchers out,” said Weber.

“Offensively, we have been a little bit on a roller coaster and need to get back to being more aggressive at the plate and start attacking opposing pitchers more. We have a full schedule with more tough competition on the way and it will only make us better.”

The Royals will play in Mitchell on June 16 starting at 6 p.m. On June 21, Winner/Colome will travel to Valentine, Neb.
