Winner Teener baseball team defeated Mission in both games of double header Thursday at Leahy Bowl.

In the first game, Winner won 19-9.  Nick Lantz was the winning pitcher.  In the nightcap, Winner won 8-5. Cale Meiners was the winning pitcher.

Last Wednesday, July 15 in Rapid City, Winner Teeners were defeated 8-3. Carter Brickman was the losing pitcher.

On July 20, Colome defeated Winner in two games. In the first game, Winner lost 9-7. Jordan Turgeon was the losing pitcher.  In the second game, Winner lost 7-3. Ty Bolton was the losing pitcher.

The Winner varsity Teeners start region play on July 29 in Wagner. Winner will play Lead-Deadwood in the first game. The tournament continues Thursday and Friday.

Lynn DeMers won the championship of the Winner women’s city tournament on Sunday. She shot an 88.  Second place in the championship flight was Kari DeMers, 89.

The Winner men’s city golf tournament was held at the same time. Jordan Kimmel won the championship flight. He was followed by Ryan Radant, 2nd; Chris Burns, 3rd and Mike Barfuss, 4th.

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team defeated Corsica/Stickney 7-2 in the district tournament Friday in Platte.  J. J. Farner was the winning pitcher.  Derek Graesser had 3 hits with a home run.

On Sunday, Alexandria defeated Winner/Colome 10-1.  Drew Weber was the losing pitcher.

The Pheasants will play Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will play the winners of the Parkston Mudcats and the Parkston Bullheads.

Cody Haiar and Justin Zeigler won championship of the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce golf tournament on July 17. They shot a 40.

Second place in the championship flight went to Jordan Nelson and Tiffany Hauf with a 41 and also shooting a 41 were Zach and Sarah Anderson.

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team won its first game in the region tournament in Rapid City on July 15. The Royals defeated Martin 15-0.

In the second game on Thursday, Winner/Colome defeated Spearfish 5-4 in 13 innings.

On Friday, Winner/Colome had to play Spearfish again in back to back games. Spearfish won both games and advances to the state Legion tournament in Salem.

In Friday’s first game, Spearfish won 8-6.  In the final game, Spearfish won 16-8.

“We made a heck of a run at making the state tournament. We were able to secure a spot in the championship with a crazy, fun win Thursday against Spearfish but came up a little short in the two championship games on Friday,” said coach Drew Weber.
“Spearfish is really a good team with players that had just a little more experience than we had and it showed up in the deciding game on Friday.  I could not be more proud of the way we played and this is a valuable learning experience for us, considering we only loose two players next year.  It will be very difficult to replace Landon Engel and Brandon Bicek as they have been two of our most consistent and steady players the last couple of years,” said Weber.

The coach says Winner/Colome feels like they are one of the top teams in the state and proved that with our showing during the region. “We were one or two plays away from making the state tournament and I expect us to come back next year and make those plays,” said Weber.

Winner/Colome finished the season with a 17-9 record.

The Winner varsity Teeners will begin region play July 29 in Wagner.

Winner will play Lead-Deadwood at 3 p.m.

Winner Teeners won both games of a double header over Pierre Monday, July 13.

In the first game, Winner won 10-3.  In the second game, Winner won 8-6.

Winner High School varsity volleyball team won the championship at an Augustana Camp July 15-16 in Sioux Falls.

Winner defeated Sioux Valley in the championship match.

Sydney Fritz of Winner was named the MVP for the tournament. Alexis Richey won the hustler award.

There were 21 Winner junior varsity and varsity volleyball players who attended the camp. The matches were played in the Elman Center.

The Winner Wild 5th grade girls basketball team took runner-up honors at the Pacesetter Great Four state championship in Minneapolis, Minn., on July 11.

The girls advanced to the tournament by being named the South Dakota Pacesetter champions earlier in the year in Huron.

Renae Brewster and Kathy Peppel of Butte, Neb., won the 2 lady best ball golf tournament Saturday at the Winner County Club. They shot a 75.

Second place in the first flight went to Becky Olson and Laura Root with a 79.

Winning the second flight were Brenda and Ronae Klein with an 82 and the second in this flight went to Kay Berg and Bonnie Gardner with an 83.
