Warriors Picked Up Two Victories

Winner High School boys basketball team picked up two wins this week. With the victories the Warriors improved their record to 3-0.  In the preseason Class A poll, Winner is rated 4th.
On Saturday, Winner defeated Sully Buttes 41-38.

Drew DeMers scored 11 points, Devon Leiferman, 9; Lattrel Terkildsen and Cameron Kuil, 7 each.  Kuil led the team with 11 rebounds and Krockett Krolikowski with 10 rebounds.

On Friday, the Warriors hosted Miller and came away with a 57-47 victory.
Leiferman lead all scorers with 27 points and Krokilowski added 13.  Leiferman pulled down 8 rebounds.  DeMers had 5 steals and 5 assists.

Three Wrestlers Place in Valentine

Winner Area wrestling team placed 8th out of 19 teams at the Valentine, Neb., tournament this weekend.
The Warriors had three placers. Kayleb Brozik took third with a 4-1 win over Gavin Tompke of Ord, Neb.  Wyatt Turnquist took fourth as he lost 6-5 to Chase Larsen of Plattsmouth, Neb.  Jayden Schroeder placed 6th as he lost 5-2 over Caden Billings of Valentine.

Cowboys Down Cody-Kilgore

Colome Cowboys basketball team used balanced scoring to defeat Cody-Kilgore 88-54 Saturday in Colome.

Reed Harter led the scoring with 29 points followed by Holden Thieman with 22 and Kelly O’Bryan with 18. Harter had 5 assists.

The Cowboys had a strong night on the boards as they pulled down 37 rebounds led by Thieman with 7 and 6 each from Jackson Kinzer and Isaac Kortan.

Gregory Nips Colome

Gregory nipped the Colome boys basketball team 63-56 Dec. 17 in Colome.

The Cowboys led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. However, Gregory out-scored Colome 19-6 in the second quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Colome out-scored Gregory 26-16.

Holden Thieman scored 32 points for Colome with Reed Harter adding 12 points.  Thieman pulled down 11 rebounds and Jackson Kinzer and Reed Harter had 7 each.

“This was a tough battle between two good teams,” said coach Drew Weber.

Fritz Considered for “Volleyball Player of the Year”

Sydney Fritz of Winner was one of the state’s volleyball players considered for the Mitchell Daily Republic’s “Volleyball Player of the Year”.

Fritz was the key to Winner’s attack throughout the season and was selected as a first team all-state player.  She had 545 kills or about six per set and added 320 digs, 39 blocks and 46 aces.

Fritz is a senior at Winner High School.

Two Wrestlers Place in Rapid City

Two Winner Area wrestlers placed at the Rapid City Invitational this weekend.
Wyatt Turnquist placed fourth as he lost 12-5 to Jacob Woods of Sturgis.  Kayleb Brozik placed 7th as he won 2-1 over Trig Olson of Harding County.
Other wrestlers who made the second day but came up one match short of placing were Colby Curtis, Cameron Biggins and Jayden Schroeder.
Winner placed 20th out of 35 teams from the 3-State Region.

Warriors Open Season with Victory

Winner High School boys basketball team opened the season with a 55-34 victory over Wagner Friday in Winner.
Krockett Krolikowski led the Warriors with 13 points and Devon Leiferman added 12.  Leading rebounders were Leiferman with 9, Krolikowski with 7 and Chase Kingsbury with 6.
Winner shot 50 percent (23-46) from the field and were 4-10 from the line.

Lady Warriors Open with Victory

Winner High School girls basketball team used balanced scoring as they defeated Wagner 78-61 in the opening game of the season Friday in Winner.

Bailey Volmer led the team with 27 points followed by Allison Cox with 20, Sydney Fritz, 15 and Kylie Horstman with 10.
Cox pulled down 10 rebounds for Winner and Volmer grabbed 5.

Winner shot 51 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line.
