Golfers Place 9th

Winner Area girls golf team placed 9th at the State A tournament held June 6-7 in Hot Springs.

Leading the Lady Warriors was Ronae Klein who placed 12th with 93-80—173.

Placings of other Winner Area golfers were: Liz Jankauskas, 39th, 100-97—197; Addy Root, 69th, 104-114—218; Sam Marts, tied for 78th, 123-109—232 and Cheyenne Dougherty, tied for 84th, 115-120—235.

The first place title went to Parkston.

Amateurs Come Up with Two Victories

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team defeated Platte 6-1 Thursday night in Platte in Sunshine League play.
J. J. Farner was the winning pitcher throwing a complete game with 8 strikeouts.

Derek Graesser had 4 hits to lead Winner/Colome. Ryan Richey had 3 hits with 3 RBIs

On Sunday, Winner/Colome defeated Dimock-Emery 3-1 in Emery.

Derek Graesser pitched a complete game as he struck out five.  At the plate, Graesser had three hits with a solo home run.

Austin Richey added a solo home run for the Pheasants.

Winner/Colome is 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine League.

Winner-Colome Legion baseball team defeated Gregory 7-5 on June 8.

“We had a nice bounce back win over Gregory after a poor outing against Martin,” said coach Drew Weber.
Kelly O’Bryan pitched 6 1/3 innings with 4 runs (3 earned), 4 hits, 7 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Cameron Biggins earned the win in relief as he pitched 2/3 of an inning with Reed Harter earning the save as he pitched 2 innings and had 6 strikeouts.
At the plate, Biggins had 3 singles and 2 RBIs; Harter, a single, 3 walks and 2 runs scored and Drew DeMers, a single with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

It was a wild ride to the state B championship but Winner/Colome baseball team proved they have what it takes to make big comebacks and impressive plays.

After coming from behind in the Region 4B title game against St. Thomas More and rallying for a 4-3 win in marathon 13 innings over Dell Rapids in the first game of the state tournament in Sioux Falls, the Royals hung on to win the championship 5-4 over West Central.

Winner Area girls golf team placed second at the Region 3A tournament May 31 in Mitchell.

The Lady Warriors shot a 418 and qualified the entire team for the state tournament which was held June 6-7 in Hot Springs.

Ronae Klein finished in 4th place with a 92

Addy Root placed 8th with a 102 and Liz Jankauskas was 9th with a 106. Sam Marts placed 16th with a 118.

The golfers going to state are: Ronae Klein, Addy Root, Liz Jankauskas, Sam Marts and Cheyenne Dougherty.
