Legion Wins Two Games

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team defeated Martin and Mission in games played on June 22.
The Royals defeated Martin 12-8.

Cameron Biggins earned the win on the mound pitching 6 innings and giving up 7 runs on 7 hits, 9 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Leading batters were Matt Campbell with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Kelly O’Bryan had a double, single, 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Phillip Jorgensen had a double, single and 3 RBIs.
In the second game, Winner defeated Mission 11-8.
Ryan Sherman earned the win in relief pitching 3 innings and giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Kelly O’Bryan had 2 singles, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Jayden Schroeder had a double and 2 RBIs.

Legion Wins 3 Games in Aberdeen Tournament

The Winner/Colome Legion baseball team played in a tournament in Aberdeen Friday through Sunday.
The Royals won three of the four games.

In the first game on Friday, Winner/Colome was defeated by Aberdeen 8-0 in five innings.  Carter Brickman pitched 4 innings giving up 8 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and 1 strikeout.  Riley Calhoon and Jordan Turgeon each had singles.

In the second game, Winner/Colome defeated Mobridge 7-2.  Ty Bolton earned the win on the mound pitching 4 innings giving up 1 run with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Drew DeMers earned the save in relief pitching 3 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Riley Calhoon had a triple and two runs scores. Reed Harter had a double and Drew DeMers had a single and two runs scored.

In the third game, Winner/Colome defeated Jamestown, N.D., 7-3.  Kelly O’Bryan earned the win pitching 7 innings and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks and 7 strikeouts.  O’Bryan had a double, single and 3 runs scores. Reed Harter had a single and 2 runs scored.

In game 4, the Royals defeated Milbank 3-2.  Harter earned the win pitching 7 innings and giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Harter had a double and a single and Cameron Biggins had a 2 singles.

“We kind of laid an egg in game one against a very good Aberdeen team with a few very uncharacteristic errors but I was pleased with the way we rebounded to win three straight against some stiff competition,” said coach Drew Weber.

He said Jamestown is one of the leading teams in their class in North Dakota and Milbank is one of the front runners to win this year’s Legion title so earning victories over them was very special.

18U team Takes Second

The Winner 18U girls softball team traveled to Pierre this weekend and played in the Oahe Power Surge fastpitch softball tournament. The Winner girls came home with a second place.
After some tough games in pool play, the girls battled back in the bracket portion of the tournament.
Winner defeated Platte to get into the championship game. Winner girls fell to Brandon Blast in the championship.

12U Team Wins First Place

The Winner 12U team won first place in the silver division of the Oahe Power Surge fastpitch softball tournament in Pierre June 25-26.

Winner beat Pierre Bombers 21-10 on Saturday. Alex Bohnet earned the player of the game award. Winner than played Rapid City Wicked and Winner lost 11-7. Aleya Miller was chosen as player of the game.

The final game on Saturday Winner played Burke and lost 15-14. Kelbi Meiners was chosen as the player of the game.

There were 12 teams in the 12U division and so Sunday teams were split into gold and silver divisions based on pool play Saturday.

Winner’s first game on Sunday was against Pierre Bombers and Winner won 11-3 which placed them in the championship game.

In the championship, Winner faced the Pierre Fireballs and earned first place in the silver division with a score of 13-5.

Weber Throws No Hitter

Drew Weber fired a no hitter last Tuesday to lift the Winner/Colome amateur baseball team to a 9-0 victory over Pierre at Leahy Bowl. The game was decided in seven innings.

Weber had seven strikeouts in the victory and had no walks.

The Pheasants were led offensively by Zach Harter’s 3 for 3 night, scoring 2 runs. Ryan Richey was 2-3 with two RBIs while Austin Richey was 2-4 with two runs scored. Derek Graesser was 1-4 with two RBIs.

McClanahan Throws No Hitter

Levi McClanahan pitched a no hitter as the Winner Teeners defeated Mission 15-0 in three innings Thursday in Winner.  McClanahan had 8 strikeouts.

Riley Calhoon had a grand slam home run.  Other hitters were Cale Meiners, Carter Brickman, and McClanahan.

On June 15 in Chamberlain, the Winner Teeners came up with a 5-4 victory in 8 innings.

Winner was down 4-1 going into the 7th inning and they came up with the runs to tie the game and send it into extra innings. In the 8th, Riley Calhoon scored the winning run.

Cale Meiners was the winning pitcher as he pitched seven innings and Calhoon came in the extra inning.
Leading hitters were Calhoon, Meiners and Joren Bruun, all with 2 singles each.

Winner Teeners Claim Tournament Title

Winner Teeners won the championship of their own tournament with a 7-6 come from behind victory in the 7th inning. Carter Brickman had the walk off hit for the championship over Bon Homme Sunday evening at Leahy Bowl.

Riley Calhoon slides into home plate in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 6-6.

The Winner Teeners had a clean sweep on their way to the tournament championship.

In the first game on a hot Saturday morning, Winner defeated Parkston 14-6.

In the semifinal game, Winner defeated Valentine, Neb., to advance to Sunday’s championship.

The Teeners and junior Teeners will host Mission on Thursday starting at 6 p.m.

Jr Teeners have Clean Sweep In Parkston tournament

The Winner Junior Teeners had a clean sweep of the Parkston round robin baseball tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Winner played two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday.

In the first game, Winner defeated Tyndall 7-0. Brady Fritz was the winning pitcher.  Leading hitters were Preston Norrid with 2 hits with a double, Fritz had 2 hits, Kameron Meiners and Oscar Pravecek also had hits.

In the second game on Saturday, Winner won 8-3 over Parkston.  Meiners was the winning pitcher.
Aaron Gilchrist had 2 hits.

On Sunday, Winner defeated Lennox 13-9. Fritz was the winning pitcher with Jesse Colson getting the save.
Fritz had 3 hits and Fred Whiting, 2 hits.
