Lady Warriors Claim a Couple

Winner Lady Warriors basketball team had a strong first half as they defeated Bennett County 77-28 on Jan. 16.

Morgan Hammerbeck scored 20 points followed by Madyson Frazier with 10, Abby Marts and Ellie Brozik with 9 each and Maggie LaCompte, 8.

Marts pulled down 6 rebounds. Frazier had 6 steals and 5 assists.

Morgan Hammerbeck scored a season high 35 points to help Winner girls basketball team to a 72-58 victory over Pine Ridge on Jan. 18.

Gabby Kocer added 16 points for Winner.

Hammerbeck pulled down 15 rebounds.

Wrestlers Win Tri Valley Meet

Winner Area wrestling team had five champions and won first place at the Tri Valley tournament on Saturday.

The five champions were Atlas Willuweit, Riggin Shippy, Sam Kruger, Wyatt Turnquist and Kaden Keiser.

Also placing for Winner were Jack Kruger, 4th; Riley Orel, 3rd; Trevor Peters, 3rd; Preston Norrid, 3rd; Owen Duffy, 5th; Achilles Willuweit, 3rd and Elijah Blare, 3rd.

Winner Area wrestlers will host a triangular with Kimball and Philip on Friday and on Saturday, Jan. 20, is the big Winner Invitational wrestling tournament.

Lady Warriors Claim Couple of Victories

Winner girls basketball team scored lots of points last Tuesday as they defeated Valentine, Neb., 75-35 in Winner.

Leading the way for Winner was Morgan Hammerbeck with 19 points followed by Gabby Kocer with 11 and 9 each from Maggie LaCompte and Abby Marts.

Marts pulled down 7 of Winner’s 38 rebounds. Hammerbeck grabbed 6 and Kocer, 5.

On Thursday, Winner defeated Bon Homme 82-39.

Hammerbeck scored 23 points, Kocer, 17; LaCompte and Ellie Brozik, had 8 points each.

Abby Marts pulled down 7 rebounds. Sachtjen and LaCompte had 5 each.

On Saturday, Winner defeated Windom, Minn., 78-30 in the Border Clash in Garretson.

Morgan Hammerbeck led the scoring for Winner with 24 points followed by Maggie LaCompte with 14 and Gabby Kocer, 10.

Hammerbeck pulled down 8 of Winner’s 36 rebounds. Kelsey Sachtjen and Kocer had 6 each.

The Lady Warriors will travel to Pine Ridge on Jan. 18 and host Miller on Jan. 22.

 

Cowboys Win Consolation Championship

Colome boys basketball team won the consolation game in the Jones County Tournament as they defeated Kadoka Area 60-43 on Saturday.

Salonen led the scoring for Colome with 19 points followed by Thieman, 15; Calvin Ringing Shield, 14 and Kinzer, 10.

Thieman pulled down 10 rebounds, with six each from Ringing Shield and Salonen.

The Cowboys opened up the tournament on Thursday when they were defeated by Stanley County 51-46.

Salonen scored 13 points and Thieman, 11.

Thieman pulled down 6 rebounds and Jackson Kinzer and Salonen with 5 each.

On Friday, Colome defeated Philip 55-31.

Kinzer led the scoring for Colome with 15 points followed by Ringing Shield, 14 and Salonen, 13.

Thieman pulled down 11 of Colome’s 27 rebounds.

Colome will play at Gayville-Volin on Jan. 19 and will travel to Kimball/White Lake on Jan. 23.

Winner Boys Back in Action

Winner boys basketball team got back on the winning track with a 58-33 victory over Valentine, Neb., on Jan. 9 in Winner.

Joren Bruun led the scoring for Winner with 18 points followed by Brandon Volmer with 15, Brady Fritz, 9 and Shea Connot, 6.

Jorgensen pulled down 6 rebounds, Volmer and Fritz, 5 each.  Bruun and Connot each had 5 assists.  Fritz had 5 steals and Volmer, 3.

Winner boys basketball team was defeated by Bon Homme 69-52 in a makeup game Jan. 11.

Four players were in double figures. Shea Connot led the scoring with 14 points, Brandon Volmer, 13; Brady Fritz, 13 and Joren Bruun, 10.

Fritz and Connot both pulled down 5 rebounds.   Bruun had 5 assists and Fritz, 3.

Winner boys basketball team was defeated by Windom, Minn., 76-48 in the Garretson Border Clash on Saturday.

Brady Fritz led the scoring for Winner with 17 points, followed by Brandon Volmer, 10; Shea Connot, 9 and Joren Bruun, 6.

Bruun and Fritz each had 7 rebounds and Tyson Westendorf, 6.

Winner will travel to Pine Ridge on Jan. 18 and travel to Mission on Jan. 23.

Lady Warriors Sweep the Week

Winner Lady Warriors picked up a win on the road as they defeated Chamberlain 55-24 on Jan. 2.

Morgan Hammerbeck led the scoring for Winner with 22 points followed by Gabby Kocer with 14.  Abby Marts pulled down 6 rebounds.

Winner girls basketball team won an exciting game over Todd County 65-56 Thursday in Winner.

Morgan Hammerbeck led Winner with 23 points and Gabby Kocer added 18 points.  Madison Thieman picked up 6 rebounds and Hammerbeck added 5.

Winner girls basketball team defeated Gregory 77-39 on Saturday.

Gabby Kocer led the Lady Warriors with 24 points followed by Maggie LaCompte with12 and Madyson Frazier, 10.  LaCompte and Madison Thieman each had 5 assists. Kocer had 5 steals.  Kelsey Sachtjen pulled down 6 of Winner’s 31 rebounds.

Colome Girls Fall in Games

The Colome girls basketball team lost to Wessington Springs 52-46 on Dec. 30.

Rayne Hermsen led the Cowgirls with 11 points, 7 rebounds; Kaydee Heath had a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Abby Kortan and Saydee Heath scored 9 and 8 points respectively.

On Jan. 2, the Colome girls were defeated by Avon 70-31.

Colome was led by Abby Kortan and Rayne Hermsen with 8 points each. Saydee Heath scored 6 points while Kaydee Heath added 4 points and 7 rebounds.

Colome hosted Kimball/White Lake on Jan. 4. The Cowgirls were defeated 56-34.

Saydee Heath was the leading scorer with 11 points and Makayla Shippy added 10.

On Saturday, Jan. 6, Colome girls hosted Andes Central/Dakota Christian. AC/DC won the game 47-24.

Abby Kortan scored 8 points and Saydee Heath scored 7.

Boys Hoopsters Hit the Hardwood

In a close game, the Winner boys basketball team was nipped by Chamberlain 53-50 Jan. 2 in Chamberlain.

Brady Fritz led the scoring for Winner with 17 points followed by Phillip Jorgensen, 10; Joren Bruun, 7 and Tyson Westendorf, 6.  Jorgensen pulled down 9 of Winner’s 28 rebounds.

On Friday, the Warriors defeated Bennett County 56-28.

Brady Fritz led the scoring with 19 points followed by Phillip Jorgensen, 8; Joren Bruun, 7; Brandon Volmer and Shea Connot with 5 each.  Volmer pulled down 9 rebounds and Jorgensen, 8.

On Saturday, Gregory defeated Winner 59-44.

Volmer scored 17 points, Fritz, 10 and Bruun, 5.  Volmer pulled down 11 rebounds and Fritz, 4.
Bruun had 5 assists and Connot had a 4 steals. Connot also had a man-maker.
