Lady Warriors Pick Up Two Wins

Saturday Winner defeated Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 65-41.

Morgan Hammerbeck led the scoring with 21 points followed by 14 by Gabby Kocer. Madyson Frazier added 9 and Kelsey Sachtjen, 8.

Kocer had 10 rebounds and Hammerbeck 8.

On Feb. 1, Winner was on the road and defeated Crow Creek 63-57.

Two Winner players scored 20 points or more.  Hammerbeck scored 21 points and Kocer added 20 points. Frazier added 16 points.

Hammebeck pulled down 9 rebounds and Madison Thieman, 8.

The Winner girls will host Platte/Geddes Thursday night and on Friday will host McLaughlin.

Cowgirls Drop a Pair

The Colome girls basketball team fell to the Lyman Raiders 50-43 on Jan. 29.

Saydee Heath was the leading scorers for the Cowgirls with 15 points. Rayne Hermsen scored 9 points and Kaydee Heath added 8 rebounds to go along with her 9 points.

Colome girls basketball team fell in a close match up with Eureka/Bowdle on Saturday in the Highmore Classic.
Colome was nipped 38-36.

Kaydee Heath, Abby Kortan and Makayla Shippy each scored nine points.  Heath and Kortan each added 8 rebounds.

Colome will host Menno on Feb. 10 and Gregory on Feb. 12.

CEB Nips Warriors

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte nipped the Winner boys basketball team 66-62 in a game Saturday in Winner.

Brandon Volmer led the scoring with 20 points followed by Brady Fritz, 14; Shea Connot, 10 and Joren Bruun, 9.  Volmer had 9 rebounds and Fritz, 6.  Bruun had 3 assists and Volmer had a man maker.

Winner will host McLaughlin in a boys and girls double header on Feb. 9.  On Feb. 13, Winner will play at Platte.

Cowboys Split

Colome boys basketball team defeated Andes Central/Dakota Christian 56-50 on Friday.

Layton Thieman scored 16 points, Jackson Kinzer, 15 and Calvin Ringing Shield, 13.  Thieman pulled down 7 rebounds and Kinzer, 6.

Colome played Saturday in the Highmore Class and was defeated by Herreid/Selby 61-50.

Kinzer scored 13 points, Kolton Salonen, 12; Ringing Sheild, 10 and Thieman, 9.  Kinzer grabbed 7 rebounds and Thieman, 6.

Colome will host Menno on Feb. 10 in a boys and girls double header. On Feb. 13, Colome will host Burke/South Central.

Lady Warriors Rolling Last Week

Winner girls basketball team defeated Miller 47-38 Thursday in Winner.

Gabby Kocer and Madyson Frazier both scored 11 points. Maggie LaCompte added 9.

Kocer and Morgan Hammerbeck each pulled down 8 of Winner’s 33 rebounds.

The Winner Lady Warriors basketball team had a big second and fourth quarter as they defeated Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 53-33 Friday.

Morgan Hammerbeck led the scoring with 18 points followed by Madyson Frazier with 14.

Kelsey Sachtjen and Hammerbeck both pulled down 6 rebounds.

With the victory, the Lady Warriors improved its record to 13-2.

Colome Cowboys Collect 12th Win

Colome boys basketball team came out on top to take a 52-48 victory over Gayville-Volin on Jan. 19.

Scoring in double figures for the Cowboys were Layton Thieman 16, Jackson Kinzer, 15 and Kolton Salonen, 12. Calvin Ringing Shield added 9 points.

Thieman pulled down 8 rebounds and Salonen, 7.

On Jan. 23, Colome defeated Kimball/White Lake 65-33.

Jackson Kinzer led the scoring with 19 points followed by Layton Thieman with 18 and Calvin Ringing Shield with 14.

Thieman pulled down 8 of Colome’s 27 rebounds. Kinzer had 7 rebounds.

Colome boys pulled away in the overtime to capture their 12th win in a 65-62 victory over Platte-Geddes in Colome Friday night.

Layton Thieman scored 19 points with 18 each from Jackson Kinzer and Kolton Salonen.

Salonen pulled down 11 rebounds, Kinzer, 7 and Thieman, 6.

Colome will play AC/DC on Feb. 2 and on Feb. 3 will play in the Highmore Classic. On Feb. 6 Colome will host North Central.

Wrestlers Placed 4th in Aberdeen

 

Winner Area wrestling team took fourth place in the Lee Wolf Invitational in Aberdeen on Saturday.  The Warriors scored 141.5 points. First place went Canton in the 16 team field.

Sam Kruger was Winner Area’s lone Champion.

Placing for Winner Area were Kaden Keiser, 3rd; Jack Kruger, 6th; Riley Orel, 8th; Atlas Willuweit, 2nd; Wyatt Turnquist, 3rd; Aaron Gilchrist, 8th; Trevor Peters, 3rd; Caleb Week, 8th; Riggin Shippy, 5th; Achilles Willuweit, 8th and Elijah Blare, 7th.

Winner will wrestle in the Big Dakota Tournament in Stanley County on Feb. 3.

Warriors Split a Pair

Winner boys basketball team got back on the winning track with a 66-57 victory over Todd County on Jan. 23 in Mission.

Brady Fritz and Shea Connot both scored 19 points. Joren Bruun and Brandon Volmer both added 11.

Connot pulled down 11 rebounds with Volmer and Fritz grabbing 7 each.  Bruun had 5 assists.  Volmer and Connot each had a man maker.

The Winner boys basketball team was defeated by Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 50-38 Friday night.

Gregg pulled down 6 rebounds.  Volmer and Gregg each had 2 man makers.

Cowgirls Win Consolation Championship

Colome girls basketball team won the consolation championship of the Southern Plains Conference tournament with a 44-35 victory over Jones County.

Kaydee Heath scored 11 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Saydee Heath had 10 points and Rayne Hermsen added 6 points and 12 rebounds. Makayla Shippy and Abby Kortan scored 8 and 7 points respectively.

Saydee Heath was named to the SPC all tournament team.

In the opening game, Colome was defeated by Burke/South Central 61-16.

Saydee Heath and Hermsen were the leading scorers with 5 and 4 points respectively.

In the second round of the tournament, Colome defeated Gregory in a tight game 49-47.

Rayne Hermsen led the way with 14 points while Saydee Heath added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

A last second shot by Colome’s Abby Kortan propelled the Cowgirls to a 52-51 victory over Platte-Geddes.

Makayla Shippy had a season high 21 points. Kortan added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the double double. Saydee Heath scored 10 points and 8 rebounds.
