Warriors Split Pair

Winner boys basketball team defeated St. Francis 64-58 on Feb. 6.

Scoring leaders for Winner were Brady Fritz, 17; Brandon Volmer, 16; Shea Connot, 11 and Joren Bruun, 9.  Volmer pulled down 13 rebounds, Fritz, 7 and Connot, 5.  Bruun had 5 assists, Fritz and Volmer, 3 each.

Winner boys basketball team was nipped by McLaughlin 66-60 Friday in Winner.

Brady Fritz led the scoring with 26 points followed by Brandon Volmer, 20; Shea Connot, 6 and Joren Bruun, 5.  Volmer pulled down 6 rebounds. Bruun had 5 assists.

The next action for Winner will be Friday when they travel to Mobridge.

Winner Area Sweeps Week

Winner Area wrestling won matches over Chamberlain and McCook Central/Montrose on Feb. 6 in Chamberlain.

The Warriors defeated Chamberlain 45-24 and defeated McCook Central 46-30.

Winner area wrestling team won first place at the Huron tournament on Saturday. The Warriors scored 206.5 points with Aberdeen Central taking second and Mitchell, third.

The Warriors had three champions: Jack Kruger at 113 pounds, Atlas Willuweit at 120 and Sam Kruger at 145 pounds.

Also placing for the Winner Area team were Kaden Keiser, 3rd; Riley Orel, 3rd; Wyatt Turnquist, 2nd; Aaron Gilchrist, 4th; Trevor Peters, 4th; ; Preston Norrid, 6th; Riggin Shippy, 4th; Landon Debus, 4th; Asher Kraft, 6th; Achilles Willuweit, 5th and Elijah Blare, 4th.

Cowboys Win Another Pair

Three Colome players scored 16 points each to lead the Cowboys to a 61-36 victory over North Central Feb. 6 in Colome.

Layton Thieman, Kolton Salonen and Jackson Kinzer led the scoring.  The Cowboys out-rebounded North Central 40-23. Thieman pulled down 12 rebounds, Calvin Ringing Shield, 9 and Salonen, 8.

Jackson Kinzer and Kolton Salonen both scored 16 points to lead the scoring for Colome as they defeated Menno 50-41 Saturday in Colome.

Layton Thieman added 11 points.  Salonen pulled down 12 rebounds. Thieman, Kinzer and Calvin Ringing Shield each had 6 rebounds.

Colome Victory Comes Down to Wire

Colome Cowgirls basketball team defeated Menno 50-47 on Saturday.

The game came down to the final possession. With Colome leading by one, Makayla Shippy was fouled with 2.5 seconds left. She made both free throws of a 1 on 1 giving the Cowgirls a 3 point lead. Menno ran a full court play and missed a shot at the buzzer.

Rayne Hermsen scored 16 points with 6 rebounds. Kaydee Heath had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Shippy added 12 points and Saydee Heath had 6 points and 13 rebounds.

Colome has a road game at Marty on Thursday.

Lady Warriors Pick Up Two Wins

Saturday Winner defeated Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 65-41.

Morgan Hammerbeck led the scoring with 21 points followed by 14 by Gabby Kocer. Madyson Frazier added 9 and Kelsey Sachtjen, 8.

Kocer had 10 rebounds and Hammerbeck 8.

On Feb. 1, Winner was on the road and defeated Crow Creek 63-57.

Two Winner players scored 20 points or more.  Hammerbeck scored 21 points and Kocer added 20 points. Frazier added 16 points.

Hammebeck pulled down 9 rebounds and Madison Thieman, 8.

The Winner girls will host Platte/Geddes Thursday night and on Friday will host McLaughlin.

Cowgirls Drop a Pair

The Colome girls basketball team fell to the Lyman Raiders 50-43 on Jan. 29.

Saydee Heath was the leading scorers for the Cowgirls with 15 points. Rayne Hermsen scored 9 points and Kaydee Heath added 8 rebounds to go along with her 9 points.

Colome girls basketball team fell in a close match up with Eureka/Bowdle on Saturday in the Highmore Classic.
Colome was nipped 38-36.

Kaydee Heath, Abby Kortan and Makayla Shippy each scored nine points.  Heath and Kortan each added 8 rebounds.

Colome will host Menno on Feb. 10 and Gregory on Feb. 12.

CEB Nips Warriors

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte nipped the Winner boys basketball team 66-62 in a game Saturday in Winner.

Brandon Volmer led the scoring with 20 points followed by Brady Fritz, 14; Shea Connot, 10 and Joren Bruun, 9.  Volmer had 9 rebounds and Fritz, 6.  Bruun had 3 assists and Volmer had a man maker.

Winner will host McLaughlin in a boys and girls double header on Feb. 9.  On Feb. 13, Winner will play at Platte.
