Winner/Colome club baseball team had two solid wins on Friday. With the victories the Royals remain undefeated.

Due to the weather, the team had not played in two weeks. Friday afternoon at Leahy Bowl, the Royals defeated Lead-Deadwood 11-2.

Carter Brickman earned the win pitching five innings giving up 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Layton Thieman pitched two innings giving up no runs on 1 hit, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The big inning for the Royals was the second as they scored 5 runs.

Leading hitters were Riley Calhoon with 2 runs scores and 3 RBIs.

Jackson Kinzer had 2 singles, 2 run and 1 RBI. Jeremiah Yeaman had a single and 2 runs scored.

Chase Dufek had 2 RBIs.

Following the game in Winner, the team traveled to Chamberlain for a game that evening. Winner/Colome won this game 10-2.

Calhoon finished 4-5 and drove in three runs to power Winner/Colome over Chamberlain.

Thieman had 2 singles, and 2 runs scored and Nick Lantz had a 2 RBI double.

Ty Bolton earned the win pitching five innings giving up 2 runs on two hits, 4 walks. Kinzer pitched one inning, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

Chase Dufek pitched one inning giving up no runs, hits or walks with one strikeout.

“These were two solid wins for us, especially after a two-week layoff with no games,” said coach Drew Weber. “Our pitchers did a pretty good job outside of one or two innings of getting the lead batter out and pounding the strike zone. I though that we fielded the ball OK. Offensively we are getting we’re getting great production throughout the lineup. Riley really sets the tone for offense at the leadoff spot and he is off to a fast start this season but we are getting guys on base throughout our entire lineup which is what it takes to win in the post season,” said Weber.

The Winner/Colome junior varsity defeated Chamberlain 13-0.

The next action for the Royals is May 2 at home against Platte-Geddes. The junior varsity game will start at 5:30 followed by the varsity game.

On May 5 the junior varsity will play Mitchell in Winner starting at 3 p.m.

On May 6, the Royals will travel to Parkston for a 2 p.m. game

On May 7, Winner/Colome will host St. Thomas More at 3:30 p.m.

Colome track team competed in the Great Plains Conference track meet in Centerville on April 24.

Haley Krumpus won the triple jump in 30-11.

The weather cleared and athletes form several schools were able to compete in the Bill Pistulka track meet in Winner on April 26.

The meet had been postponed from earlier in the year due to weather.

No team points were kept.

The Winner girls team almost had a clean sweep of the relays. They won first place in four of the relays.

Ellie Brozik won the 200 in :27.30 and Sidda Schuyler won the 2 mile run in 12:01.65. The girls 4×100 relay took first place in :54.77.

In the high jump, Kelsey Sachtjen won first with a jump of 4-10 and Meagan Blare won the triple jump in 31-05.50

Ronae Klein won first place in the Big Dakota and Chamberlain Invitational golf meet on April 23.

The Winner senior shot an 88 to win the title.

Addy Root was third with a 92 and Sam Marts was 10^th with a 108.

Outdoor weather has not been kind to the Winner track team so they took their action inside.

The team took part in the Wesleyan Open on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell on April 16.

Due to the snow and cold, the Winner team has not able to compete much outdoors.

The DWU Avera Sports and Wellness Complex provided an indoor place to compete.

Winner’s Ellie Brozik won the 200 in :27.34 and Sidda Schuyler won the 3,200 in 12:35.90. Schuyler also placed second in the mile run in 5:36.67.

Kelsey Sachtjen placed first in the high jump with a leap of 4-11.

The girls team won two relays—4×400 and medley.

For the Winner boys, Brady Fritz won the triple jump (41-2) and placed second in the long jump (20-4). Fritz also placed second in the 200 in :23.87.

Kade Watson won the 3200 in 10:53.05 and the boys medley relay took first place.

Brady Fritz won the long jump at the Pierre Legion Relays on Thursday.

Fritz finished with a leap of 21 feet-4 inches edging out Rapid City Central’s Kailleb Walton-Blanden for first place. Fritz qualified for the state track meet in the long jump.

Also qualifying for state were the boys 4×100 relay and Kelsey Sachtjen in the high jump.

There were over 20 high school teams at the meet. This included some of the larger schools in the state from Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

In the preliminaries of the girls 100 meter hurdles, Skyler Hansen ran a :17.87, Tedra Vrbka, :18.70 and Elisabeth Duffy, :19.26

The next meet for Winner will be April 26 at Lyman

There are 26 girls this season on the Winner Area golf team.

The returning letterwinners are Ronae Klein, Addy Root, Cheyenne Dougherty, Sam Marts, Lauren Norrid and Kiersten Durrin.

The four seniors on the team are Klein, Marts, Norrid and Macy Olson.

The only senior who graduated was Liz Jankauskas.

Last season the Lady Warriors won the region tournament and placed 6^th at the state meet in Hartford.

Last year, Klein led the team as she took 12^th place.

Due to the weather, the girls have not had a lot of time to practice outdoors. Coach Kristin Livermont said with the cold weather the girls have been practicing indoors in the middle school gym.

The first tournament for the girls will be the Big Dakota on Thursday in Pierre and on Friday the team will travel to Parkston.

Livermont says the goals for the team is to win the regional and place in the top five at state.
