Winner takes 3rd place in Father’s Day tournament

The Winner Junior Teeners took third place in the Father’s Day baseball tournament this weekend at Leahy Bowl.

In the opening round, Winner beat Lyman 12-7.

In the semifinal match up, Gregory avenged an earlier loss to come way with a 16-6 victory.

In the third place game, Winner took down Onida in a dramatic fashion winning 15-14. Winner was able to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win in a walk off fashion. Norrid had the game winning single scoring Kaiser.

Legion Places 3rd in Tournament

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team placed third in a Rapid City tournament this weekend.

In the third place game, the Royals defeated Rapid City Post 320 Risers 14-6.

In pool play prior to this game, Winner/Colome defeated Grandview, Colo., 8-1; lost to Rapid City Shooters 2-1; Winner/Colome defeated Harrisburg  11-1 and defeated Boulder, Colo., 13-3.

Winner/Colome outscored its opponents 48-13 in the tournament which was Friday through Sunday.

Jr. Teeners Defeated Gregory

Winner Junior Teeners baseball team defeated Gregory 2-0 June 18 at Leahy Bowl.

In a tournament in Parkston last weekend, the Junior Teeners won one game and lost two.

The team defeated Parkston 10-4. Sachtjen pitched all seven innings and struck out 7.

Winner was defeated 9-0 by Lennox. Aaron Gilchrist and Sachtjen each had  singles. Meiners took the loss on the mound.

In the final game, Winner was defeated by Bon Homme 13-1. Phillip Jorgensen score Winner’s lone run.

Gage Watson and Fred Whiting shared pitching duties.

“It was nice to get to play east river teams that we normally don’t get to play during a typical season,” said coach Jon Hanson.

“I was pleased with how we played while facing some outstanding pitching from the other teams,” said the coach.

Winner is around halfway through the season with a 3-4 record. “With each game we are improving,” said Hanson.

Amateur Team Wins Two Games in Sunshine League

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team won two games Sunday in Mitchell in Sunshine League action.

Winner/Colome nipped Mt. Vernon 7-6 in the first game. Dylan Lambley scored the winning run in the ninth inning.

In the second game, the Pheasants defeated Mitchell Maddogs 10-3.

On Friday in Winner, Dimock-Emery defeated Winner/Colome 12-1 in seven innings.

The next game for Winner/Colome will be Thursday night in Winner when they host Mt. Vernon at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, the Pheasants will host Parkston in double header. Games will be at 2 and 4 p.m. at Leahy Bowl.

Crow Eagle and Jensen Claim Golf Title

Rich Crow Eagle and Corey Jensen were the champions of the Frontier Motors  Open golf tournament Sunday at Winner Country Club. They pair shot a  61.

Second place in the championship flight went to Ivan Crow Eagle and Roger Crow Eagle.

Taking third in this flight were Mike Cahoy and Willie Beckers with fourth going to Terry Schmidt and Jared Miller.

Winners of the first flight were Phil Husher and James Mathis. Second place went to Larry Aaker and Mike Stickland with third going to Chris and Duane Labahn. Placing fourth were Jack Haley and Jim Haley.

Winners of the second flight were Chuck Keiser and Kevin Keiser. Second went to Gary Fenenga and Doug Lattaye. Placing third were Scott Meiners Scott Dutt with fourth going to Austin Hamilton and Lance Engel.

Winner Teeners take 7th place

Winner Teeners took seventh place in the local Teener tournament this weekend at Leahy Bowl.

In Sunday’s game, Winner defeated Bon Homme 11-3.

The local Teeners rattled off six runs early in the game. Bon Homme got on the scoreboard in the third inning.

Kayleb Brozik was the winning pitcher.

Winner opened the tournament facing Sturgis. Sturgis won the game 15-8 in extra innings.
Riley Calhoon tied the game at 6-6 on his score in the fourth inning. Winner took an 8-6 lead won a score by Jordan Turgeon. In the 7th inning, Sturgis scored two runs to tie the game at 8-8.

Nick Lantz was the losing pitcher.

Valentine defeated Winner 7-5.

Carter Brickman was the losing pitcher.

Legion defeats Gregory

baseball page holden thiemanWinner/Colome Legion baseball team defeated Gregory 11-4 Friday in Winner.

“I thought we did a great job of hitting the ball, especially after struggling in our previous game,” said coach Drew Weber.  “The whole lineup contributed in some way and that is a big key for us moving forward.  Trevor threw a fantastic game for his first time out this year. We were solid defensively,” said the coach.

Pheasants defeat Alexandria

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team won the second game of doubleheader against Alexandria Saturday afternoon.

The Pheasants won the Sunshine League game 11-10. In the 9th inning, Austin Calhoon got a walk off base hit scoring Drew Weber for the win.

“It was a nice walk off win over a good team,” said coach Kevin Graesser. “All players contributed to this win,” he said.

In the first game, Winner/Colome lost 7-5.

Weber was the losing pitcher.
