Harter Throws No Hitter

Reed Harter threw a shutout in five innings as the Winner/Colome baseball team defeated Chamberlain 13-0 in the first round of the playoffs on May 16 at Leahy Bowl.  Harter had 13 strikeouts.

The Royals scored two runs each in the first and second innings, 4 runs in the third and 5 runs in the fourth inning.

Kuil Sets Conference Record

Winner High School boys track team won the SESD conference meet held in Winner on May 10.  The Warriors scored 111 points for first place.
The Winner girls team took 7th with 41 points. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton won the girls division with 180 points.

Two conference records were broken. Winner’s Cameron Kuil broke the boys 100 meter dash record as he crossed the finish line in :10.68.  The Winner junior had a sweep of the sprint races as he also won the 200 and the 400.

Klein Medalist at Golf Meet

Ronae Klein was the medalist at the Winner Invitational track meet on Friday. Klein shot a 45.

The teams only played 9 holes due to the cold and windy conditions. Winner won first place and the team title.

Winner swept the top five placings. Liz Jankauskas was 2nd, Addy Root, 3rd; Samantha Marts, 4th; and Brennan Bachmann, 5th.

Lady Warriors Take 1st Place

Winner Area girls golf team won first place at the Stanley County Invite. The Lady Warriors shot a 273.

Ronae Klein placed second with an 86 and Liz Jankauskas placed 4th with an 88.

Also golfing for the varsity were Sam Marts and Addy Root.

In the junior varsity division, Cheyenne Dougherty won first place with a 101.

Also golfing on the JV team were Lauren Norrid, Kiersten Durrin, Jordyn Seegers and Macy Olson.

Howard Wood Relays

Three Winner High School relays teams qualified for the state meet at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays this weekend in Sioux Falls.

The boys and girls medley and the boys mile relay team all qualified.

The Lady Warriors medley relay team placed 9th in 4:27.9. Runners were Hayley Halverson, Alexis Richey, Sam Schuyler and Chloe Bartels.

The boys medley placed 4th in 3:40.022. Runners are Riley Calhoon, Cameron Kuil, Luke Engel and Kayleb Brozik.

The boys mile relay team took 7th in a time of 3:33.802. Runners were Luke Engel, Riley Calhoon, Kayleb Brozik and Cameron Kuil.

“The kids love running at Howard Wood because they get to run against very good competition and it gives them a good measuring stick of where they are at compared to the rest state,” said coach Larry Aaker.

Seven of the eight relays that Winner ran ended up running their best time so far this season.
