Linkyn Petersek of Colome will be competing in the national junior high school rodeo finals June 19-25 in Lebanon, Tenn.

At nationals, Petersek will be competing in breakaway roping and ribbon roping.  In breakaway roping, he will compete on Monday morning and Friday evening.  Petersek and Ramee Hanson, Burke, will ribbon rope on Tuesday, June 21in the evening performance and Thursday morning.

The top 20 contestants in each event will make it back to the final go on Saturday evening.

At the state junior high rodeo in Rapid City, Petersek took 2nd in breakaway and was 4th in ribbon roping. His ribbon roping partner is Ramee Hanson of Burke.

The top four in each event at state advance to the national finals.  Petersek competed in regional rodeos in Rapid City and Huron prior to the state finals.  Last year, Petersek competed in the national finals in team roping.

Petersek, son of R. J. and Sara Petersek, will be an 8th grader this year at Colome School.

The second regional high school rodeo was held June 11-12 in Ft. Pierre with area cowboys and cowgirls placing and earning points to qualify for state.

Payton Eagle of Winner was 7th in breakaway roping in the first go and placed 9th in the average.

Wiley Heath of Colome was 6th in boys cutting in the first go, 8th in the second go and 6th in the average.

In girls cutting, Karissa Odenbach of Hamill was third in the first go, 6th in the second go and 5th in the average.
In pole bending, Eagle was 10th in the second go.

Heath was 4th in the first go of the reined cow horse. He was third in the second go and third in the average.
In team roping, Wiley Heath and Myles Kenzy were 6th.

In the second go of team roping, Eagle and Austin Olson were third and Heath and Kenzy were 5th. In the average, Heath and Kenzy placed second with Eagle and Olson taking 8th.

In tie down, Heath was first in the second go and third in the first go. Heath was second in the average and Kenzy was first.

The circus is coming to Winner.

The 63rd annual Rosebud Shrine Circus will be held in Winner on Sunday, June 19 at the Tripp County 4-H rodeo arena.

Note this is a new date. Tickets that were printed and other information had the date of June 26. That is incorrect as the circus will be in Winner on Father’s Day on June 19.

The circus will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Winner True Value.

The circus is sponsored by the Rosebud Shrine Club and proceeds benefit Shriners Children’s Hospital and area families.

The circus in Winner will feature a concession stand and circus novelties.

Come to the circus to see the amazing acrobats, daring aerialists, clowns and animal acts. It is fun for all ages.

The city of Winner asked residents on June 8 and June 9 to conserve water due to a valve issue on one of the tanks.

The city thought it could be done with repair by noon on June 8 but determined the repair was going to take longer so asked residents to conserve all day June 8 and June 9.

Area students graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University of Mitchell.

Sarah Covey, Winner, graduated with an associate of science degree in nursing.
Kyle Higgins, Sioux Falls, formerly of Winner, graduated with a master of business administration—strategic leadership degree.
Nicholas Jorgensen of Ideal graduated with a master of business administration—strategic leadership degree.
Anthony Husher of Winner graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology.
Michael Rohde, Colome, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology.
Tyler Vavra of Winner graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Area students have been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Dakota State University. Named to the list are : Brock Dufek, Colome; Blenda Hadsall and Kortni Moser, both of Winner.

Shayden Drey of Winner has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Sioux Falls.

Area students have bee named the spring semester dean’s list at the University of South Dakota.
Named to the list are Sarah Shippy Colome; Allison Duffy, Michelle Novak, Tennille Black Feather, Tracy Routh and Whitney Labahan, all of Winner.

Area students have been named to the spring semester dean’s list at South Dakota State University.
Students on the list are: Nick Hossle, Hamill; Trevor Larson, Hamill, 4.0 GPA; Zach Hortsman, 4.0; Jack Kerner, 4.0; Trace Meyer, Rebecca Moorhead, 4.0; Corey Wackel, 4.0, all of Winner; Allie Kingsbury, Brittney Piper and Haley Sherwood, all of Wood; Chance Littau, Carter, 4.0.

Rylee Rutten of Colome has been named to the dean’s honor roll at Eastern Wyoming College.
Rutten also graduated from Eastern Wyoming College.
