Kaden Keiser won first place in the Bennett County Invitational on Saturday. Keiser pinned Clarence Winter, Bennett County in 1:35 in the championship.
Also placing for Winner were Joey Cole, 4th; Aaron Gilchrist, 3rd; Landon Debus, 2nd; Cailob Week, 4th, Achilles Willuweit, 3rd and Nick Blare, 4th.
Winner Area wrestling team defeated Stanley County 43-32 in a dual Jan. 10 in Ft. Pierre. Coach Spencer Novotny said the Warriors came out flat. “Our young men weren’t ready to wrestle. That is my fault as a coach and we about got beat because of it,” he said.

Drew DeMers scored 18 points and Cameron Kuil and Brandon Volmer each added 12 as the Winner boys basketball team defeated Valentine, Neb., 54-35 on Jan. 10.
Isaac Naasz pulled down 9 rebounds and Kuil, 8. DeMers and Kuil both had 5 steals.
Colome ended White River’s reign at the Jones County Tournament. Saturday in the championship game Colome defeated White River 52-38.
Kelly O’Bryan led Colome with 18 points and was named the MVP of the tournament. He was also named to the all-tournament first team. Jackson Kinzer added 11 points. Holden Thieman had 9 points and six rebounds. In this game, Thieman surpassed the 1,000 career points. He won the Pete Kerns sportsmanship award and was on the all tournament team.
Kelly O’Bryan and Kolton Salonen each pulled down 5 rebounds.
O’Bryan scored 25 points as Colome defeated Stanley County 63-53 Friday in the Jones County Tournament. With the victory Colome advanced to the championship. Holden Thieman added 13 points and Salonen added 12.
Colome pulled down 19 rebounds and were led with 4 each by Salonen and O’Bryan.
Colome defeated Bennett County 70-34 in the opening round of the Jones County Tournament in Murdo on Jan. 12.
Kolton Salonen led Colome with 15 points and Kelly O’Bryan added 14.
Salonen pulled down 7 rebounds, Holden Thieman and Jackson Kinzer had 6 each and Beau Bertram, 5.
Crow Creek defeated the Colome boys basketball team 53-49 Monday, Jan. 9, in Colome.
Jackson Kinzer scored 18 points and Kelly O’Bryan, 12Colome out-rebounded Crow Creek 37-31. Kolton Salonen pulled down 9 rebounds and Layton Thieman and O’Bryan, 7 each.
Winner girls basketball team fell to West Central 67-53 at the Dakota State University Classic in Madison Saturday afternoon.
Bella Swedlund led the scoring for Winner with 19 points. Madyson Frazier added 12 points and Morgan Hammerbeck, 7.
Sydney Hollenbeck pulled down 8 rebounds.
The Winner girls will play Pine Ridge on Thursday in Winner. This will be a boys and girls doubleheader.
On Jan. 23, Winner will travel to Miller.
Winner High School girls basketball team rolled to a 55-25 victory over Valentine, Neb., on Jan 10.
Rachel Sherman and Sydney Hollenbeck both scored 11 points. Madyson Frazier added 10 points. Sherman pulled down 10 rebounds, 6 each from Bella Swedlund and Hollenbeck.
Colome girls basketball team was defeated by Burke/South Central 65-42 on Jan. 12.
Callie Heath scored 21 points and Abby Kortan, 7. Callie Heath pulled down 9 of Colome’s 33 rebounds, Kaydee Heath grabbed 8.
Colome will play in the Southern Plains Tournament starting on Jan 19.
Selma Carolina (Norland) Holden was born on July 5, 1911 to Ingeborg Annetta (Bjoe) and Peder Norland, immigrants from Norway who had homesteaded in Tripp, and Gregory counties. They settled in Tripp County, and Selma grew up on the farm. Selma graduated from Winner High School in 1930, then attended Normal Teaching College in Aberdeen, SD. She also attended summer school in Spearfish, and Springfield, SD to renew her teaching certificate.
Selma married Thomas Henry Holden and to this union four children were born. Donna (Derold) Shippy of Winner, Merle (Gloria) Holden of Colome, Duane (Rita) Holden of Clearfield, and Roger (Nadine) Holden of Evanston, WY.
Selma taught at several country schools in Tripp County and in the Colome and Winner schools. She taught for nearly 40 years. Selma loved her pupils and really enjoyed teaching. She had many stories to tell of her experiences. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Extension Club.
Selma and Tom farmed in Tripp County where she was known for her good meals, especially her pies and buns. They enjoyed raising a garden and gifting the produce to relatives and friends.
Art was born on Sept.10, 1916 to Frank and Louise Heginger Kemp in Goodell, Iowa. Art had two sisters and one brother.
Art completed the 8th grade in Belmond, Iowa. After school he worked with his uncle on the farm. On September 16, 1939 Art married Grace Nuehring. They worked for Arts uncle for 8 years. They came to Clearfield in 1947 at the urging of a friend.
Art and Grace had 2 children, Jerry was born in Iowa and Judy was born in Winner, SD. Art and Grace ran the Movie Theater in Clearfield every Saturday and Sunday night. Freshly popped popcorn was sold to the patrons.
Art did mechanic work at the Clearfield Garage until 1953. When Art and his family left Clearfield they lived on different farms before they purchased their farm 11 miles south of Winner. Art continued doing mechanic work and he enjoyed working with bees and had both a garden and an orchard.
