Garth Brooks entertained over 350,000 fans on June 27 in a live concert at drive inn theaters. Winner Drive Inn was one of the theaters in South Dakota that hosted the event.

Entertaining Over 350,000 Fans With A One Night Only Live Concert At Drive-In Theaters Across North America

Garth Brooks managed to accomplish the impossible! On Saturday night, June 27, he entertained over 350,000 fans with a one night only live concert at drive-in theaters across North America. Fans were able to enjoy this special event, with friends and family, from the safety of their own vehicle.

The Winner Drive In Theater was one of the theaters to host the event.

It was the first time anything like this had ever been done. The concert was created exclusively for this event. It was recorded in Nashville, with the full band.

“This time, I was the fan and the people were the entertainment. Watching people all night from coast to coast, in Canada and here in the U.S., laughing, dancing, and singing, made me smile,” said Garth Brooks. “It reminded me how much I miss the crazy, happy, and unpredictable life we lead as entertainers. For one night, things seemed…right.”

The event was produced by Encore Live.

The show adhered to guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as all state and local health mandates.

Linkyn Petersek, was named the state all around champion

Linkyn Petersek, Colome, was named the state all around champion at the state
high school rodeo in Ft. Pierre. He was the tie down state champion, team roping
reserve state champion, steer wrestling, 7th place and reining cow horse, 5th
place. Petersek is pictured with the saddles and buckles he won. He is one of
nine kids from South Dakota that made it to nationals in more than one event.

Bridge funds

Tripp County received two bridge replacement funding from the South Dakota Department of Transportation meeting in Pierre.

Tripp County had two of the 49 projects that received funding. One of the bridges is at 264th St, northeast of Ideal. The existing bridge is 60 feet and the estimated replacement cost is $600,000.

The second bridge is northeast of Winner at 270th St and is a 38 foot single span bridge. Total estimated replacement cost is$380,000.Bids will be let for work on both bridges.

A total of 113 applications were received by the DOT. Seven cities submitted eight applications and 37 counties submitted 105 applications. The projects will require a 18.05 percent local match.

During the 2020 legislative session, approximately $4 million was appropriated to help offset the local match resulting in approximately 5-6 percent share for the selected local governments.

Royals snag victory over Bon Homme

Royals snag victory over Bon Homme Winner/Colome Legion baseball team snagged a late lead and defeated Bon Homme 8-5 in Tyndall on June 24.

In the top of the fifth inning, Fred Whiting homered scoring three runs.The Royals won the game despite allowing Bon Homme to score three runs in the third inning. In addition to Whiting’s home runs, Joren Bruun had two home runs on the night.Winner/Colome knotted the game at four in the top of the fourth inning when Evan Farner singled scoring one run.

Kameron Meiners was on the hill for the Royals and pitched all seven innings. He allowed nine hits and five runs over seven innings and struck out seven. Bruun led the Winner/Colome team with two hits at four times at bat.

Also getting hits for the Royals were Oscar Pravecek, Whiting, Meiners, Farner, Jacob Beckers, The trip to Tyndall was the start of a series of road games for Winner/Colome.

Saturday the local Legion team was in Redfield. Redfield 13-Winner 1Winner/Colome Legion played two games in Redfield on Saturday afternoon.In the first game, Redfield defeated Winner/Colome 13-1.

The Royals watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in the loss. Redfield started off with six runs in the first inning.Winner/Colome scored its single run in the fourth inning. Jacob Beckers led things off on the mound as he pitched six innings. He allowed three hits and three runs over the six innings. Beckers struck out 11. Evan Farner threw one third of an inning in relief.

The Legion team will play in Gregory on July 2.On July 8, Winner/Colome will host Gregory in an 8 p.m. game.
