Funeral services for Arlyn Feyereisen, 75, Iona, were held Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Gregory. Burial followed at the Iona Cemetery.
Arlyn Lynn Feyereisen was born on Jan. 20, 1944 in Chamberlain, S.D. to William and Lucy (Walker) Feyereisen. He joined two brothers, William Dean and Gordon James. They grew up in Iona. Arlyn attended grade school in Iona except for two years when he attended the McKinley school. He graduated from Gregory High School in 1962.
While in high school he worked for Jay Seeley in the jewelry store. He carried out groceries, stocked shelves, and offloaded the trucks when Buches was on Main Street. He worked for Tilton Motors changing oil and replacing ties.
On Nov. 29, 1963, Arlyn married Linda Connick. He was blessed with two children, Theresa Jean and Arlyn Lee. He had three grandchildren, Alan Dean, Kaleb William, and Kaelee Jean, and one great-grandson, Dartanian Scott. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to garden, farm, hunt, fish, milk goats, drive cars and tractors, and play cards.
He attended Springfield College and received a degree in Elementary Education, attending school in the summer and teaching during the school year. He started teaching at the McKinley school in Iona. In 1967 they moved to Ideal where he taught for 4 years at the Ideal school, and 4 years at Eden school. They moved west of Winner and taught at the Sunnyside school 4 years, Star Valley 2 years, then taught 3rd grade at Westside Elementary in Winner until he retired from teaching.
Along with teaching, Arlyn helped his dad on the farm. They put up hay and grew winter wheat, two things that allowed him to continue teaching. With his dad’s passing he took over the farm. Arlyn continued farming with the help of Arly, friends, and neighbors.
Arlyn enjoyed spending time with his friends, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping at Snake Creek, activities he shared with his family.
When Alice asked him if he would serve on the Cemetery Board he took his responsibility seriously. He worked with Emmett several years to get the cemetery surveyed. With the help of many volunteers they marked the corners of each section of the cemetery. It was his desire to make sure the cemetery would be maintained for the Iona community.
Arlyn passed away at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD on Nov. 30, 2019 at the age of 75.
