Hollenbeck, Sears Winners in Dallas Event

The 14th annual Dallas dally 10 steer team roping was held July 3.

There were 19 teams in the qualifying round.

First place and buckle winners were Rob Hollenbeck and Robert Sears.   Second place went to Tom Shelbourn and Donnie Moore.  Taking third were Keith Talsma and Kevin Talsma.  Fourth place went to Jake Cole and Ron Wells.

The overall fast time went to Cory Nilson and Cordell Nilson.

Children’s Production Set for July 20-21

The Winner Community Playhouse will present a children’s play “Toy School” July 20 and 21. The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. each night with a matinee on Friday, July 21 at 3 p.m. at the Winner Community Playhouse.

For reservations persons can call the playhouse at 842-1958.

The play is directed by Molly English and Michelle Novak with Emily Moser as the volunteer.

Winner Woman Charged with Burglary

A Winner woman was charged with burglary and child abuse after jumping from a seven-foot-high window to escape police while holding her infant child.

Teyaune Clairmont, 26, was arrested and charged with breaking into an apartment and abusing her one year old child.

Court records say at about midnight on July 1, law enforcement attempted to perform a welfare check on Clairmont but could not immediately locate her.

Officers found Clairmont, who was allegedly intoxicated, inside a locked apartment about 30 minutes later.

Clairmont would not open the door so officers broke in through the door and entered the apartment.

The officers discovered Clairmont allegedly jumped out a window with her one-year-old child.

Clairmont allegedly ran into another building where she was located hiding in a closet and then was arrested.

Clairmont was charged with first degree burglary, a class 2 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine and abuse or cruelty to a minor under the age of 7, a class 3 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

She was also charged with obstructing police, jailer or firefighter and resisting arrest, class 1 misdemeanors punishable upon conviction by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine as well as disorderly conduct, a class 2 misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $50,000.

Winner Summer Nights Set for July 13

The July Winner Summer Nights will be held Thursday, July 13, on Main Street. The event will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with the second block of Main Street being blocked off.

The Black Lab will be having a beer garden.

“Get Wet” is the theme with this month’s sponsor Winner Dental Clinic and Winner Area Chamber of Commerce.

Country Kraze will be providing the live music.

The food vendors will be Wings and More, Smoking Bull BBQ, Jennifer’s Tacos, Spirit Gems and Elks Club.  McDonalds will host an ice cream social starting at 6 p.m.

Activities will include: scavenger hunt, sidewalk chalk, elephant march, hula hoop, ring toss, duck races, bubbles, squirt painting, bowling, sponge toss and face painting.

A thin line relay will start at 8 p.m. featuring law enforcement, EMTs and firemen.

Persons are asked to bring their law chairs to enjoy the evening.

Winner Summer Nights is a family fun night and the whole family is encouraged to attend.

Aaker, Schuyler Win Track Honors

Winner track coach Larry Aaker has been named the region coach of the year. Jayd Schuyler was named the regional assistant track coach of the year by the South Dakota High School Track and Field Coaches Association.

The Winner boys track team took fourth placed at the State A meet in Sioux Falls.

Aaker and Schuyler were honored from Region 3.

Winner/Colome Pheasants Score Monster Week

Tarrell Bauld held Parkston to two runs and seven hits as Winner/Colome amateur baseball team edged Parkston Mudcats 3-2 Sunday in Sunshine League action.

Bauld had one strikeout and six walks in nine innings.  Derek Graesser, Dillon Lambley and Jared Donahue each had two hits for the Pheasants. Austin Calhoon, Zach Harter and Donahue each had an RBI.

Crofton, Neb., edged Winner/Colome 11-10 Friday in Mitchell.  Crofton broke a 10-10 tie in the ninth inning.

Reed Harter, Geno Katz and Ryan Richey each had doubles and Lakin Neugebauer scored two runs and two stolen bases.

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team shut out Mt Vernon 10-0 Thursday in Winner.

Jared Donahue tossed a complete one hitter game with 15 strikeouts in Sunshine League action.  Ryan Richey went 2-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs while Austin Calhoon added a double and two RBIs. Lakin Negebauer added thee hits.

Austin Richey had three hits including a grand slam home run for the Winner/Colome Pheasants versus South Central in an Independence Day game in Gregory.  The Pheasants won the game 15-3.

Austin Calhoon added three hits and Derek Graesser had a three run home run.   Lakin Neugebauer earned the win pitching five innings and Jon Hanson pitched the final two innings.

Legion Splits Games

Parkston scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a tie game and hold onto a 10-9 win over Winner/Colome Legion team Friday in Winner.

Drew DeMers had a double, single and 3 runs scored; Levi McClanahan had 2 singles and Nick Lantz had 2 singles and 3RBIs.

Ty Bolton pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.  Carter Brickman threw 3 1/3 innings giving up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and 3 strikeouts.

Sunday, Winner/Colome played two games in Rapid City.  In the first game, the Royals defeated Post 320 12-10.

McClanahan had a home run, single and two RBIs; Kelly O’Bryan had a double, single and 5 RBIs; DeMers and Bolton each had 3 singles.

O’Bryan started on the mound and pitched 3 innings giving up 7 runs on 9 hits, 3 walks and 1 strikeout. DeMers threw four innings in relief giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

In the second game, Rapid City Post 320 defeated Winner/Colome 12-4.

Cameron Biggins and Carter Brickman each had 2 singles.  McClanahan and Biggins each threw 3 innings.

Winner/Colome Legion baseball team scored 10 times in the second inning and defeated Gregory County 18-1 on July 4 in Gregory.

The Royals had two hits and three RBIs from Kelly O’Bryan while Riley Calhoon, Levi McClanahan, Carter Brickman, and Ty Bolton each had two RBI games.   Nick Lantz earned the win throwing three innings and striking out three.

Prior to July 4th, the Winner/Colome team played in the Milt Simons tournament in Sioux Falls.

Aberdeen defeated Winner/Colome 14-6.  

Levi McClanahan started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up five runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Kelly O’Bryan and Riley Calhoon pitched in relief.  Drew DeMers had 4 singles, 3 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Nick Lantz had a single and 3 RBIs.

Dell Rapids defeated the Royals 6-1.

Riley Calhoon and Carter Brickman each had 2 singles.  Brickman started on the mound throwing 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on six hits, 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. Jeremiah Yeaman pitched in relief.

Sioux Falls West defeated Winner/Colome 11-4.

At the plate, OBryan had 3 singles. DeMers had a triple and 2 RBIs.  In pitching, O’Bryan pitched 3 innings giving up 9 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk. Cale Meiners and Drew DeMers pitched in relief.

Winner/Colome defeated Baltic 11-1.

At the plate, Calhoon had a double, 2 singles and 6 RBI. Kelly O’Bryan had a home run, single and 3 RBIs. Cameron Biggins had 2 singles.  DeMers threw the complete game.

Junior Legion Skids Through Week

Winner Junior Legion baseball team played two games against Gregory and Colome Sunday at Leahy Bowl.  Gregory defeated Winner 11-6.

Dalton Baker was the pitcher giving up only 2 earned runs.  Leading hitters were Phillip Jorgensen with 2 hits and Fred Whiting with a single.

Winner was defeated by Colome Teeners 10-3.

Pitching were Aaron Gilchrist and Kameron Meiners.  Leading hitters were Fred Whiting, Oscar Pravecek and Colby Kaiser, each with a hit.

Winner Junior Legion baseball team lost 5-2 to Kimball//White Lake on July 6.

Phillip Jorgensen pitched five innings giving up no earned runs and striking out six.  Leading hitters were Tyler Olson with two hits, Fred Whiting with 2 hits and Oscar Pravecek with 2 RBIs.

Winner Junior Legion baseball team fell to Gregory 10-4 over the 4th of July weekend.

Leading hitters were Phillip Jorgensen with 3 hits, Fred Whiting with 2 hits, Kameron Meiners with 2 hits and Preston Norrid with 2 hits.

On July 1, Winner played Rapid City in two games. In the first game, Winner lost 10-6.

Pitching the first game were Aaron Gilchrist and Fred Whiting.  Leading hitters were Jorgensen with a triple, double and 2 single. Oscar Pravecek with two singles, Bosten Morehart wth 2 singles and Shea Connot with 2 singles.

In the second game, the Winner was defeated 11-8.

Pitching in this game was Kameron Meiners.  Leading hitters were Colby Kaiser with 2 hits, Dalton Baker, with 2 hits, Jorgensen with 3 hits, Whiting with 2 hits and Tyler Olson with 2 hits.

Junior Teeners Drop a Pair

Winner Junior Teeners baseball team lost to Kimball/White Lake 14-4 on July 6.
Jesse Colson and Zach Bohnet shared pitching duties.   Adam Bohnet had a triple and Charley Pravecek, Evan Farner and Zach Bohnet had hits.
On July 3, Winner lost to Gregory 3-2.
Farner went the distance and pitched the entire game. Brady Fritz had an RBI triple and Farner had an RBI double.
Region play starts next week.
