Winner/Colome club baseball team had two solid wins on Friday. With the victories the Royals remain undefeated.
Due to the weather, the team had not played in two weeks. Friday afternoon at Leahy Bowl, the Royals defeated Lead-Deadwood 11-2.
Carter Brickman earned the win pitching five innings giving up 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Layton Thieman pitched two innings giving up no runs on 1 hit, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
The big inning for the Royals was the second as they scored 5 runs.
Leading hitters were Riley Calhoon with 2 runs scores and 3 RBIs.
Jackson Kinzer had 2 singles, 2 run and 1 RBI. Jeremiah Yeaman had a single and 2 runs scored.
Chase Dufek had 2 RBIs.
Following the game in Winner, the team traveled to Chamberlain for a game that evening. Winner/Colome won this game 10-2.
Calhoon finished 4-5 and drove in three runs to power Winner/Colome over Chamberlain.
Thieman had 2 singles, and 2 runs scored and Nick Lantz had a 2 RBI double.
Ty Bolton earned the win pitching five innings giving up 2 runs on two hits, 4 walks. Kinzer pitched one inning, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Chase Dufek pitched one inning giving up no runs, hits or walks with one strikeout.
“These were two solid wins for us, especially after a two-week layoff with no games,” said coach Drew Weber. “Our pitchers did a pretty good job outside of one or two innings of getting the lead batter out and pounding the strike zone. I though that we fielded the ball OK. Offensively we are getting we’re getting great production throughout the lineup. Riley really sets the tone for offense at the leadoff spot and he is off to a fast start this season but we are getting guys on base throughout our entire lineup which is what it takes to win in the post season,” said Weber.
The Winner/Colome junior varsity defeated Chamberlain 13-0.
The next action for the Royals is May 2 at home against Platte-Geddes. The junior varsity game will start at 5:30 followed by the varsity game.
On May 5 the junior varsity will play Mitchell in Winner starting at 3 p.m.
On May 6, the Royals will travel to Parkston for a 2 p.m. game
On May 7, Winner/Colome will host St. Thomas More at 3:30 p.m.
