Winner High School cheer and dance competed at Dakota Valley on Saturday.

In dance, Dakota Valley, Gregory and Winner competed. Winner placed first in hip hop, 2nd in both kick and pom and second overall.  “This was our best performance so far and as a coach I couldn’t be more proud of the outcome of this competition,” said coach Cyndy DeMers. “The leaders and all of the girls have worked really hard on getting their routines choreographed for their best chance at the state competition. They will continue to work on making their movements sharp, clean and synchronized.”
The WHS cheer team took fourth place and improved their scores from all their previous competitions with a total score of 129.   Finishing in first place was Dakota Valley followed by Bon Homme, Dell Rapids, Winner, Dell Rapids St. Mary’s, Wagner and Gregory.  “We have spent a lot of time reworking our routine to make the difficulty harder. So the fact that we just changed our ending pyramid to something a lot harder, I am thrilled with how they did,” said coach Val Ewing.

Lady Warriors Fall to Lyman

Winner High School volleyball team fell to Lyman in three games on Sept. 15. The Lady Warriors lost the match 23-25, 18-25, 22-25.

“In warm ups before the match started, Skyler VanDenHul went down with a knee injury. So we had to adjust our rotation on the spot without going over it. That threw us off and we had a hard time recovering from losing Skyler,” said coach Jaime Keiser.
“We gave Lyman too many unearned points on serving errors and attack errors. I was proud of girls who stepped up and played different spots. I was also proud of the girls for adapting to new rotations while I kept changing things up to see what would work best,” said Keiser.

The next action for Winner will be Sept. 26 at Elk Point-Jefferson and Sept. 29 at Todd County.
