Variety Show Set for March 4

The Winner Music Boosters is sponsoring a variety show on Friday, March 4, at the middle school gym. The show will start at 6:30 p.m. and is a fund raiser for the music department.

There will be a lot of singers performing everything from country to pop.  There will be instrumental soloists and a teacher group doing a lip sync song.  The Winner High School Warriorettes will also perform.

The public is invited to attend the variety show.

Eight Wrestlers Head to State

Winner Area wrestling team will send eight wrestlers to the state tournament this weekend in Rapid City.

The wrestlers who qualified for state are: Wyatt Turnquist, Atlas Willuweit, Trevor Peters, Colby Curtis, Avery Gilchrist, Kayleb Brozik, Cohl Turnquist and Jayden Schoeder.

As a team in the Region 3B meet, Winner Area placed third. Parkston was first and Bon Homme/Scotland, second.

Colby Curtis was the champion at 126 pounds. The Winner senior won 4-3 over Landon Sivertson of Miller-Highmore-Harrold.

Six wrestlers took third place and one placed fourth.

Wyatt Turnquist, 106, won 6-0 over Matt Koch of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.  Willuweit, 113, won 8-0 over Wyatt Stevens of Wessington Springs/ Woonsocket.  Peters, 120, won 3-1 over Jackson Nockels of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.  Gilchrist, 145, won 4-2 over Alex Daum of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.  Brozik, 170, won 5-1 over Jesse Mikrut of Wolsey-Wessington.  Jayden Schroeder, 195, pinned Tyson Serr of Burke/Gregory in 4:02.

Cohl Turnqusit took fourth as he lost 10-6 to Jed Konechene of Sunshine Bible Academy.

Warriors Defeat Mobridge

Winner High School basketball team won a Big Dakota Conference game when they defeated Mobridge-Pollock 44-21 on Friday.

The Warriors held the Tigers to one point in the second quarter and scoreless in the third quarter.

Drew DeMers led the scoring for Winner with 15 points followed by Devon Leiferman with 12, Cameron Kuil and Lattrel Terkildsen with 5 each.

Leiferman pulled down 12 rebounds, Kuil and Wyatt Ewing, 8 each.

Winner forced 22 turnovers.

Terkildsen, DeMers and Leiferman each had 3 assists.

Colome Nipped by Kimball/White Lake

Colome boys basketball team suffered a tough loss 59-57 on Saturday over Kimball/White Lake.

Reed Harter scored 18 points and Kelly O’Bryan, 14. Jackson Kinzer and Holden Thieman both added 8 points.

Colome out-rebounded Kimball/White Lake 26-23. Thieman pulled down 12 rebounds.

This was the final game of the regular season for the Cowboys as they prepare for the start of the post season.
