Circus Set for June 19

The circus is coming to Winner.

The 63rd annual Rosebud Shrine Circus will be held in Winner on Sunday, June 19 at the Tripp County 4-H rodeo arena.

Note this is a new date. Tickets that were printed and other information had the date of June 26. That is incorrect as the circus will be in Winner on Father’s Day on June 19.

The circus will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Winner True Value.

The circus is sponsored by the Rosebud Shrine Club and proceeds benefit Shriners Children’s Hospital and area families.

The circus in Winner will feature a concession stand and circus novelties.

Come to the circus to see the amazing acrobats, daring aerialists, clowns and animal acts. It is fun for all ages.

DWU Graduation

Area students graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University of Mitchell.

Sarah Covey, Winner, graduated with an associate of science degree in nursing.
Kyle Higgins, Sioux Falls, formerly of Winner, graduated with a master of business administration—strategic leadership degree.
Nicholas Jorgensen of Ideal graduated with a master of business administration—strategic leadership degree.
Anthony Husher of Winner graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology.
Michael Rohde, Colome, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology.
Tyler Vavra of Winner graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Winner Teeners Claim Tournament Title

Winner Teeners won the championship of their own tournament with a 7-6 come from behind victory in the 7th inning. Carter Brickman had the walk off hit for the championship over Bon Homme Sunday evening at Leahy Bowl.

Riley Calhoon slides into home plate in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 6-6.

The Winner Teeners had a clean sweep on their way to the tournament championship.

In the first game on a hot Saturday morning, Winner defeated Parkston 14-6.

In the semifinal game, Winner defeated Valentine, Neb., to advance to Sunday’s championship.

The Teeners and junior Teeners will host Mission on Thursday starting at 6 p.m.

Jr Teeners have Clean Sweep In Parkston tournament

The Winner Junior Teeners had a clean sweep of the Parkston round robin baseball tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Winner played two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday.

In the first game, Winner defeated Tyndall 7-0. Brady Fritz was the winning pitcher.  Leading hitters were Preston Norrid with 2 hits with a double, Fritz had 2 hits, Kameron Meiners and Oscar Pravecek also had hits.

In the second game on Saturday, Winner won 8-3 over Parkston.  Meiners was the winning pitcher.
Aaron Gilchrist had 2 hits.

On Sunday, Winner defeated Lennox 13-9. Fritz was the winning pitcher with Jesse Colson getting the save.
Fritz had 3 hits and Fred Whiting, 2 hits.

Golfers Place 9th

Winner Area girls golf team placed 9th at the State A tournament held June 6-7 in Hot Springs.

Leading the Lady Warriors was Ronae Klein who placed 12th with 93-80—173.

Placings of other Winner Area golfers were: Liz Jankauskas, 39th, 100-97—197; Addy Root, 69th, 104-114—218; Sam Marts, tied for 78th, 123-109—232 and Cheyenne Dougherty, tied for 84th, 115-120—235.

The first place title went to Parkston.

Amateurs Come Up with Two Victories

Winner/Colome amateur baseball team defeated Platte 6-1 Thursday night in Platte in Sunshine League play.
J. J. Farner was the winning pitcher throwing a complete game with 8 strikeouts.

Derek Graesser had 4 hits to lead Winner/Colome. Ryan Richey had 3 hits with 3 RBIs

On Sunday, Winner/Colome defeated Dimock-Emery 3-1 in Emery.

Derek Graesser pitched a complete game as he struck out five.  At the plate, Graesser had three hits with a solo home run.

Austin Richey added a solo home run for the Pheasants.

Winner/Colome is 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine League.
