Winner Lady Warriors volleyball team placed third at the Big Dakota Conference tournament Saturday in Ft. Pierre. Alexis Richey and Abby Marts were named to the all tournament team.
In the first match, Winner defeated Cheyenne Eagle Butte 25-7 and 25-13.
Winner beat Chamberlain in 3 sets—27-25, 22-25 and 25-22.
Winner was beat by Mobridge in two sets—20-25 and 20-25.
Miller defeated Winner in two sets—17-25 and 25-27.
Both the Winner High School boys and girls cross county teams took second place at the Lyman Invitational on Saturday.
In the girls varsity, Sidda Schuyler took 2nd. She was followed by Sam Schuyler, 7th; Chloe Bartels , 8th; Jaclyn Laprath, 10th; Aryn Meiners, 15th and Meagan Blare, 49th.
In the varsity boys, Izak Moleterno led the team as he placed 6th followed by Kade Watson, 13th; Wyatt Turnquist, 21st and Dawson Phillips, 29th.
Winner Area girls cross country team finished second in both the Big Dakota and Chamberlain Invite on Thursday.
Leading the varsity girls was Sidda Schuyler who placed 3rd; Chloe Bartels, 9th; Sam Schuyler, 12th; Jaclyn Laparth, 13th; Aryn Meiners, 19th; Meagan Blare, 46th.
Leading the varsity boys was Izak Moleterno who took 11th. He was followed by Kade Watson, 33rd; Dawson Phillips, 49th; Wyatt Turnquist, 64th.
Coach Jayd Schuyler says the Chamberlain/Big Dakota meet is a bigger version of the Region 4A meet.
“We ran well. Izak Moleterno keeps improving every race,” said Schuyler.
He said going into the meet the varsity girls knew there were five teams capable of winning the meet. “It came down to us and Todd County and we got edged by a point in the Class A scoring. It is shaping up to be an interesting region meet,” said Schuyler.
Winner High School football team recorded its third shut out when they rolled over Wagner 54-0 Friday night. This was the first home game for the top rated Warriors. The game ended at the half due to the mercy rule.
The Warriors scored 46 points in the first quarter. “When you scored 46 points in the opening quarter you are obviously doing something right,” said coach Dan Aaker.
Colome volleyball team defeated Jones County on Sept. 8. The scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19.
On Sept. 10, Colome lost to Tripp-Delmont-Armour. Scores were 26-28, 25-19, 13-25, 23-25.
On Sept. 6, Colome lost to Lyman 14-25, 8-25 and 6-25.
Winner High School volleyball team defeated Bennett County in three sets Sept. 6. Winner won 25-10, 25-23 and 25-16.
The Lady Warriors will compete in the Big Dakota Conference meet on Saturday in Ft. Pierre.
Winner Area girls cross country team won first place at the Scotland Invitational on Sept. 6. The girls team won the championship with 15 points. The Winner area boys team took fourth place with 35 points.
“Both the boys and girls are coming along nicely,” said coach Jayd Schuyler. “I like how we are improving each race.”
This is the third first place finish for the Lady Warriors.
The Colome Cowboys shut out Gayville/Volin 36-0 Friday night to pick up their first win of the season.
Leading rushers were Will Cahoy and Kinzer with 59 yards on 13 carries. In passing, Layton Thieman was 8 -20 for 120 yards.
The defense was led by Will Cahoy with 8 tackle and two interceptions. Wiley Heath had 7 tackles and Kelly O’Bryan, 6.
The Cowboys have a bye week this Friday. Their next game will be Sept. 16 at Burke/South Central.
Winner High School volleyball team picked up a win over Valentine, Neb., when they hosted a triangular in Winner on Thursday.
The Lady Warriors defeated Valentine in three sets. Winner won 25-14, 25-13, 26-24.
It its second match on Thursday, the Lady Warriors fell to Ainsworth, Neb., in 5 sets.
Winner won the first one 25-13 and then lost 23-25 to Ainsworth. Winner rebounded in set three winning 25-17. Winner lost the next two 22-25 and 13-15.
The Colome volleyball team played three matches in the Gregory tournament on Saturday. The Cowgirls won one set and lost two.
In the first set, Colome lost to Gregory 17-25, 25-12, 22-25.
Colome defeated Jones County 25-19, 25-19.
Colome lost to Lyman 17-25, 14-25.
