Cowboys Cruise to Victory

The Colome Cowboys dominated the first round of the state football playoffs last Tuesday.  On their home field, the Cowboys shut out Lower Brule 54-0.
The game ended at the half due to the mercy rule.

The Cowboys improved their record to 8-1 as they hosted a second round game with Alcester-Hudson on Monday, Nov. 2.

Lady Warriors Fall in Final Regular Season Match

Winner High School volleyball team closed out the regular season by playing at Plankinton on Thursday.  Mt. Vernon/Plankinton defeated Winner 13-25, 11-25, 11-25.

Platte-Geddes defeated Winner on Oct. 26.  Winner won the first game 25-23 and the Black Panthers took the next three with Winner falling 15-25, 23-25 and 16-25.

The regional tournament starts Thursday in Winner with the Lady Warriors hosting Todd County at 7:30 p.m.

Volleyball Region, District Play Set

The first round of the regional and district volleyball tournaments have been set.

Winner will play Todd County in Winner on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. 
The second round of the regional volleyball tournament will be Nov. 7 and the championship will be Nov. 10.

Colome will start play in District 12B on Thursday when they will play the winner of the Gregory/Marty match. The Nov. 5 match will be played in Colome at 7 p.m.
The district championship will be at a neutral site on Friday, Nov. 6.

Fritz Named to All Tournament Team

Winner varsity volleyball team competed in the SESD tournament Saturday in Platte.  The Lady Warriors were 2-2 for the day.   Sydney Fritz was named to the all-tournament team.

Platte-Geddes defeated Winner 17-25, 25-23 and 21-25.  In the next match, Winner defeated Gregory 23-25, 25-18, 25-16.  Mt. Vernon/Plankinton defeated Winner 15-25, 25-27. Winner defeated Scotland 25-10, 25-21.

“We played very good one game and then we would struggle getting anything going the next,” said coach Jaime Keiser. She said the team played inconsistent all day.
“We did a great job of passing the ball in serve receive but had a lot of hitting errors which gave our opponents lots of unearned points. We same some great teams and had had great competition,” said Keiser.

Earlier in the week, Wagner defeated Winner 3-0. The scores were 21-25, 16-25, 14-25.

The Lady Warriors will close out the regular season when they travel to Mt. Vernon/Plankinton on Oct. 29. The varsity and junior varsity matches will be played in Plankinton.
The regional tournament starts on Nov. 5.

Cheer Team Takes fifth

Winner competitive cheerleaders competed in the state A meet Friday in Brandon.
“The girls put on their best performance of the season and placed third in the large stunting/tumbling and took fifth overall out of 19 teams,” said coach Val Ewing.
The top five teams were Sioux Valley, Dell Rapids, Platte-Geddes, Bon Homme and Winner.
