Wrestlers win Big Dakota

Winner Area wrestling team won the Big Dakota Championship Saturday in Ft. Pierre. The Warriors had five champions seated in front from left Riley Orel, Kaden Keiser, Sam Kruger, Trevor Peters and Jack Kruger.

Winner Area wrestling team recorded two pins and a technical fall to get past Chamberlain 33-30 in dual action on Feb. 4.

Winner’s Kaden Keiser pinned Chamberlain’s Trey Neilan in 2:21 at 126 pounds.
Preston Norrid at 220 had the fast pin in 24 seconds over Ruger Forester.
Trevor Peters, 160, won by technical fall over Noah Hutmacher, 19-4.
Maxton Brozik added a 12-0 major decision over Devyn Anderson at 106.

In junior varsity action, Chamberlain won 18-9.

Contract plans discussed

Board accepts resignations

The Colome Consolidated School District School Board accepted the resignations of Bobbi Viedt, Ruth Giedd, and Superintendent Ryan Orrock. Viedt, Giedd and Orrock will finish out the 2019-2020 school year.

Jane Schramm, 49

Jane Schramm, 49, of Winner, SD passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service on Saturday.

Ellen Frescoln, 88

Ellen Eileen (Nelson) Frescoln was born April 3, 1931 in Winner, South Dakota, to H. Ivan Nelson and Wilda Leona (Knox) Nelson. She was the second of six girls and while her older sister loved working in the house, Eileen loved working outside with her dad, the livestock, and the horses.

She was a good student excelling in Mmath and speech. She graduated from Winner High School in December of 1948 and married Robert Eugene Frescoln on June 21, 1949. In 1950, she and Robert committed their lives to Christ and a few years later, they both committed to full-time ministry.

Through the many years and many Methodist and United Methodist churches they served, Eileen taught Sunday School, led youth groups, sang in the choir, sewed costumes for plays and musicals, hosted international students and missionaries, typed and printed bulletins, led Vacation Bible School, and helped organize just about everyone and everything around her.

She also fed all who came to her door, from the renowned Methodist missionary E. Stanley Jones to the many transients who were just passing through. She was an integral part of her husband’s ministry and shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with joy, conviction, and generosity.

Second only to her love for the Lord was her love for her family. She’ll be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her courage, her intelligence, her no-nonsense kindness, her prayers, her dedication to their well-being, her cooking, and her unrivaled apple pie.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sister, Vera Mae Nelson; daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Bridgman; son-in-law Scott Bridgman; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Nathan Bridgman. She is survived by son, J. Scott (Cheryl) Frescoln of Mountain View, MO; son, John (Marlene) Frescoln of St. Ann, MO; daughter, Alice (David) Fowler of Joplin, MO; eight grandchildren, Colette (David) Freeman, Wade (Andrea) Frescoln, Joe (Hilary) Frescoln, Garret (Austin) Frescoln, Ann Frescoln, Elissa (Matt) Killam, Ethan Fowler, Grant Fowler, nineteen great-grandchildren, four sisters, and a host of friends and family.

Funeral services were held at Monday, Feb. 10, 2020 in Yarber Mortuary chapel, Mountain View, Missouri with Rev. David Fowler and Rev. Barry Fielder officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mountain View, Missouri.

Bruce Beck, 88

Bruce Beck, age 88, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Visitation, with family present, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Bruce was born on April 21, 1931 in Sioux Falls, SD to Clarence and Grace (Roberts) Beck. He graduated from Washington High School. He moved to the family farm west of Canton while raising his family. He later moved to the ranch near Winner, SD where he married Lois Stoner.

He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Winner, SD. He was hardworking cowboy who loved his ranch, his cows and watching Walker Texas Ranger.

He is survived by his children: Terry (Kelly) Beck, Steve Beck, Angie (Terry) Graves, Kevin (Ginger) Beck, and Val (Bruce) Ereth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friends, Don and Lucy Schmidt; along with numerous extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; infant son Vincent Roberts Beck; son Vincent “Vince” Roberts Beck; and sister, Bonnie.

Jackie Nuttbrock, 82

Jackie Nuttbrock, 82, of Pierre, SD, died Friday, Feb. 07, 2020 at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre.

Jacqulyn Jannett Larson was born Sept. 14, 1937 to Clifton and Jannett (Erickson) Larson. She grew up on a farm near Bryant, SD. She graduated from Bryant High School in 1956.

She married Kenneth E. Nuttbrock on June 3, 1956 and they lived in various places over the years: Willow Lake, DeSmet, Bryant, Winner, Colome and Pierre. They owned a TV Store in Bryant and she did daycare in Colome. She also worked as a housekeeper at motels and cleaned houses.


Jackie is survived by her sons: Keith (Kathy) Nuttbrock and Kevin Nuttbrock all of Pierre; and 4 grandchildren: Kimberly, Kelli, Kristin and Kelsee. She is also survived by her sister Ruth (Woody) Tiggelaar of Sioux Falls, her brother James Larson of Columbia Falls, MT, Jill Nuttbrock and her ex-husband Kenneth Nuttbrock as well as a number of great friends in Pierre.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Clifton and Jannett Larson.
