Winner Area youth wrestlers took second place at the Western Edge’s tournament in Valentine, Neb., on Jan. 9.

Winner Area defeated Valentine, 76-0; Winner Area beat V-Kids, 70-15; Winner Area beat Western Edge 50-27.
Winner Area got beat by Nebraska Titans 52-27.  Winner Area tied with Broken Bow 39-39 but won by criteria of more points.

King Named Outstanding Member of Historical Society

Carol King was name the 2015 outstanding member of the Tripp County Historical Society. She received the award at the organization’s annual meeting on Jan. 10.

King was helping plant flowers and trees and working in the Jubilee Park before she was a board member.

After becoming a board member she helped in the museum with the pie and ice cream socials and also the soup suppers. She also gave her time to painting the outside of buildings such as the Cashett house and the depot.

King helps with cleaning in the spring and putting items away in the fall.

She volunteers to help in whatever needs to be done. She helped with the Labor Day weekend car show which was held at the museum this year.
One of her projects was to have Colome students put the Tripp County historical books on a disk so there would be a record and be able to find the books easier.

King is a big promoter of the historical society.

One Act Plays to Open Jan. 21

An evening of one act plays will be presented by Winner High School and Winner Middle School Jan. 21, 22 and 23 at the Winner Community Playhouse. The plays will start at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Winner High School contest one act play is “Fire Exit.”

The cast includes: Grant Winter, Brielle Bachmann, Kenzie Irick, Nick Blare, Liz Jankauskas, Matt Hartley, Duncan English and Molly Connot.
The play is directed by Kelly Assman and Kara Connot.

Playhouse Auditions

Winner Community Playhouse will hold auditions for a spring production on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the playhouse.

“Rex’s Exes” is the play chosen for the spring show. The tentative dates for the production are March 4-5 and March 11-12.
The play will be directed by Sandra York.

Persons interested in trying out for this play are welcome to attend auditions.

At the audition on Jan. 19, persons are asked to bring their personal calendars.  Persons who have questions can call 842-2397.

Galbraith Climbs in Record Book

Sharee Galbraith of Winner continues to climb up the Dakota State University women’s basketball record book for all-time blocks.
Galbraith has 45 blocks this season which is the second best in the NAIA and her average of 10 rebounds a game is 13th best in the nation.
In her DSU career, Galbraith has 145 blocks, which is the fifth most career blocks in the DSU history and is six blocks behind Sara Nelson for fourth most all-time career blocks with 151.

Winner VFW Auxiliary Scholarship

Attention all high school seniors, home-schooled students, & parents of the same.  The Winner VFW Auxiliary has provided a scholarship for an eligible applicant in the amount of $500 applied to their tuition.
The application form is simple to fill out and a short essay of a minimum of 400-500 words required to be written on the theme, “What Is The Importance of Patriotism?” Each applicant must be related to a veteran as described on the application.
Parents and guardians are asked to encourage their high school senior to enter the contest.  The deadline date is Feb. 25.   All applications can be turned into the counselor’s office or sent to: Rosemary Connot at 1114 E 10th St, Winner, SD  57580.

Winner Wild Opens Season

Winner Wild 6th grade basketball team played in the Sioux Falls O’Gorman basketball tournament on Jan. 9.
In the first game, Winner defeated BBA (Bartlett Basketball Academy) Fierce 37-14.  In the second game, Winner was nipped 45-43 by Brandon Valley.  In the third game, Winner defeated O’Gorman 40-29.
